Here’s How To Get Rid Of Ingrown Toenail Without Surgery

An ingrown toenail is an enduring disease that is represented by the growth of one of both sides of the nail beneath the skin. There are multiple reasons for advancing of ingrown toenails.

The good news is that there are many conventional and surgical methods that can remove this problem. In addition, those who want to skip the expensive and uncomfortable treatment at a health care facility can also solve this problem in their homes. This is possible only during the early phase when there are no signs of complications.

How to get rid of ingrown toenail without surgery

Firstly, you have to make both your skin and nails softer and to do so you have to prepare a hot bath.

Pour three tablespoons of baking soda in approximately five liters of water (preferably, you can also put some salt). The temperature of the water should not go beyond 37 C. Once the bath is completed, pull out the ingrown nail.

Additionally, you can use a sticking plaster and apply it on the area where you’ve noticed the ingrown toenail. This action will ease the process. In this way, your toenail will become more accessible.

Place a small amount of cotton between the nail and skin and use tweezers to slightly raise your nail at its end. Use antibacterial cream (iodine) on the cotton before you place it on the affected area.

Wait for 24 hours before you change the wrapper and cotton. Do this technique for 15 days. Your nail must get back to its ordinary condition after this cycle.

In case you find it hard to apply the cotton in this area, use a mixture based on garlic and honey (one tablespoon of raw honey and one ground garlic clove) or aloe vera on the affected area. This cream has powerful antiseptic properties.

It is crucial to understand that the most important part of this method is the softening of the skin and changing the cotton used in the procedure on a daily basis. Scrape the outer part of the nail when you are finished with the procedure.

Remember to perform pedicures on a regular basis in the future. If you detect an infection on the nail and pus, consult your doctor as soon as possible.

How to Treat an Ingrown Toenail (Home Treatment)

An ingrown toe nail is really painful and annoying, and on average one out of five people have to deal with this condition. Try this treatment and you should soon notice some improvement without seeing a doctor.

1. Soak both feet in hot water, hot enough so you can keep your feet in for 15-20 minutes. Repeat this at least twice a day. This initial step is necessary as regular baths soften the nails, and prevent any infections.

2. Before you soak your feet in water, make sure your nail tools are within reach. You need nail clippers, tweezers, scissors, cotton, or anything else you may find useful.

3. After immersing your feet in hot water, pat them dry with a clean towel. Cut your nails straight. By cutting them round you are more likely to get an ingrown nail.

4. Lift up the ingrown nail using a sterile needle and carefully put a small cotton piece under it. Remember, you should be patient and careful, never push too hard. Cotton is used to prevent any irritation and infection. After you have done this, wrap your toe with a gauze.

5. If you already have an infection, this part of your foot may turn into an intense red or dark blue. In that case, you may wish to consult with a healthcare practitioner about your options to treat naturally.

6. Your feet should breathe. Do not wear socks or shoes at home.

7. Check your nail several times a day, and change the cotton at least once a day. By taking care of your hygiene in this way you can say goodbye to your ingrown nail in two weeks, once the new nail grows.

Extra tip: To prevent inflammation put a lemon slice on the nail and wrap it with a gauze. Leave it overnight. Lemons contain acid that prevents and fights infections.
