5 Ways to Use a Toothbrush for Better Hair

Keeping up-to-date with all of the new, must-have beauty tools can be exhausting and expensive. We’re not about that. Luckily, there’s one do-it-all tool that you already have in your medicine cabinet: a toothbrush.

The hardest-working, most versatile, and most sorely unsung hero of the makeup case isn’t some expensive specialized implement; it’s a toothbrush. A plain, medium-bristled toothbrush is the only thing you need to always look well-tressed, and it works so much magic with your hair and brows, your teeth might get a little jealous.

Smooth Flyaways
Spritz a few sprays of light-hold hairspray or a shine spray  onto the bristles and use it to smooth down those wispies at the hairline. Perfect for creating sleek, polished updos.

Apply Dry Shampoo
Dry shampoo is great for absorbing oil and giving hair a little lift without washing and restyling. Instead of sprinkling it over your whole head, apply only a little bit at the roots, and use the toothbrush to comb the grains through your hair for a flawless finish without residue.

Touch Up Roots
Between colorings—either at home or at the salon—a root touch-up kit is a great way to keep new growth camouflaged. After using a touch-up pen, like ColorMark, an Allure Best of Beauty Award winner, use the toothbrush to work the product through the hair, making sure it’s evenly and precisely distributed.

Get Some Lift
If you want a little more volume at the crown (or anywhere, really), use a toothbrush to strategically backcomb and tease hair into a fuller shape. The bristles, smaller and finer than a hairbrush, will give you a more subtle result. Hold the style in place with a spritz of L’Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray.

Tame Unruly Brows
Before plucking or applying brow powder, swipe a toothbrush across your eyebrows to groom them. For extra hold, apply a little bit of clear brow gel to the bristles.

Get Rid Of Blackheads With A Toothbrush And This One Ingredient

These unappealing black spots that commonly appear on the nose, cheeks and chin, or otherwise known as blackheads, are nothing but clogged sebaceous glands. They are black because they collect dust, debris, cosmetics, and pieces of the epidermis. Blackheads are harmless until they become inflamed due to infections. That’s why this cosmetic issue should be eliminated in a time and proper manner, preferably using non-aggressive methods that could traumatize your skin.

The method we offer here is not only painless, but also extremely effective in reducing pores and excessive skin fat on your face, as well as preventing acne appearance.

HOW TO REMOVE BLACKHEADS ON YOUR FACE USING A TOOTHBRUSH

  • Get an unused toothbrush or disinfect an old one by boiling it in water for 5 minutes.
  •  Before treatment, steam your face over hot chamomile or mint tea, which you’ve previously made in a deeper saucepan, for 5-10 minutes. This is especially beneficial for unclogging your pores and hence alleviating the removal of blackheads.
  • Apply a small amount of toothpaste on the problem areas and leave for 5 minutes.
  • Then, using your toothbrush, brush your skin gently.
  • Rinse the toothpaste with warm water, pat-dry your face and finally, apply some face tonic.
  • Always disinfect your toothbrush after use.
  • Repeat the treatment 1-2 times a week, depending on the condition of your skin.

If you are wondering why toothpaste, you probably don’t know that most toothpaste contains ingredients such as hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, baking soda, and alcohol, all of which are beneficial for removing blackheads. However, it’s important to have in mind that not all sorts of toothpaste are favorable for the epidermis. Therefore, choose a product that doesn’t contain large amounts of abrasive compounds and mint. Toothpaste that contains herbs, such as sage, chamomile etc. is most favorable for your gentle face skin.
