10 Chemicals Your Body Absorbs Every Time You Put On Nail Polish

Some people view getting a manicure or doing their own nails at home as a relaxing and creative form of self-expression. Sadly it is not as harmless as you think. You may think that because you are using so little, the risk is minimal. Health. A study was done by Duke University and EWG show that isn’t the case.

The study by Duke University and the Environmental Working Group shares that even though polish is applied to the fingernail our bodies still absorb hormone disrupting chemicals every time we use conventional nail polish. In particular, the study mentions triphenyl phosphate (TPHP) an endocrine disrupting chemical that is commonly used in nail polish. Health. The chemical was found in test subjects bodies within 10-14 hours of application. In addition diphenyl phosphate (DPHP) a metabolite of TPHP had increased in test subjects bodies sevenfold.

Consumers and Technicians
Consumers increase their risk for multiple chemical exposures by going to nail salons, where there may be multiple workstations and the risk for exposure is increased. It is however nail technicians who have the greatest risk, since they are exposed to these chemicals on a consistent daily basis. Health.

Ten common nail polish ingredients to avoid
Personally I don’t believe nail polish is worth the risk, but if you simply cannot give up your nail polish then be sure to read labels and avoid these ten chemicals at all costs.

Butyl or ethyl acetate - This is toxic when inhaled, as well as being highly flammable. According to the MSDS this chemical can be seriously damaging to internal organs in the case of repeated or prolonged exposure.

Camphor – This toxic ingredient is poisonous, can add to body toxicity, cause seizures and nervousness/irritability.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) – This received a poor rating with EWG, which lists it as a high hazard. They also state that it can cause endocrine disruption and organ system toxicity. This chemical was also banned in Europe, due to its known effect of reproductive problems.

Formaldehyde (or derivatives) - While these may not be as much as they were in the past, many manufacturers still use this chemical. A known carcinogen, it also can cause allergic reactions, skin rashes and irritations

Nitrocellulose – While EWG rates this as low risk, it does state moderate concerns about organ toxicity. This is actually used in car paint, as well as dynamite and fireworks.

Parabens - This chemical acts as a preservative. There are a wide variety of parabens, none of which should be used since they are linked to cancer. Health.

Toluene - Toluene is a noxious chemical used in nail polish, base coats and topcoats to help the polish stay on the nail. Toluene is included in a list of hazardous chemicals cited in a 1987 California law. Exposure can result in headaches, dizziness and cracked skin, as well as more serious effects such as reproductive damage and respiratory complications. The CDC also warns it can cause central nervous system damage.

TPHP – This chemical allows polish to be more durable. As stated previously it is an endocrine disruptor and is known to cause developmental and reproductive problems in animals.

Xylene - This is very irritating to the skin, eyes and respiratory system. This chemical also effects the central nervous system with symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and tremors.  According to its MSDS sheet, xylene is toxic to blood, kidneys, the nervous system, liver. Repeated or prolonged exposure to the substance can produce target organs damage.

Ethyl tosylamide – Europe has banned this product due to its antibacterial properties and concern over antibiotic resistance. Health.

Nail polish hints and alternative options
Look for nail polish with all the ingredients listed on the label.

Check company websites for a complete list of ingredients and any additional information.

Avoid nail salons and do your nails at home to minimize chemical exposures. Health.

Know what you are buying. Many companies are making labels that are 3, 5, 7, 8 or 9 free. The chemicals they are eliminating vary from company to company, so it’s important to read labels. I’ve given two examples of 7 free labels, so you can see the differences. Some examples include:

3 free labels-Free of: Formaldehyde, toluene, DBP

5 free labels-Free of: Formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.

7 free labels-Free of: Formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, formaldehyde resin, camphor, TPHP and xylene.

10 Beauty Habits You Should Do Every Night

Our skin is exposed to dust, harsh UV sunrays, various chemicals, air pollution, and environmental conditions on a daily basis. Over time, this can cause various damage to the skin, and signs of premature aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and a dull complexion. But if you want to avoid damaging your skin, and to postpone the appearance of aging signs, you should take good care of both, your hair and skin during the night.

The skin is repairing itself while you sleep, but a proper skin care during night will further help it become healthier by making it glow, improving its tone, reducing blemishes, and rejuvenating and hydrating it.

Do the following ten beauty habits every night before going to bed!

1. Remove Your Makeup
Regardless if you’re too tired or have a very busy schedule, you must find time to remove your makeup prior to going to bed. In this way you will keep the young look of your skin. While sleeping at night, the skin pores open up and the skin repairs itself. But, if you have a layer of makeup on the face such as foundation, mascara, lipstick, eye shadow, or highlighter, your pores get clogged, and you will end up with uneven skin tone, spots, and acne. Remove the makeup with a facial cleanser, makeup remover, or cold cream.

2. Use a Toner
You should tone your face using a toner every night before bedtime. In this way, you will restore the natural pH levels of your skin, improving its resistance to microorganisms and bacteria. It also cleans the skin of impurities, pollution, and dust. This is especially beneficial for oily skin prone to acne.

Although there are various skin toners on the market for different types of skin, the natural one of pure rose water is the best one as it possesses clarifying, hydrating, and energizing properties. Pour a bit toner to a cotton pad and wipe it over your neck and face. Allow your skin to dry naturally. Always choose an alcohol-free formula.

3. Apply Hand Cream
If you take good care of your hands at night, you will have soft and smooth hands throughout the day. First, wash your hands with mild soap and warm water, pat dry them with a clean towel, and then you can apply the hand cream. To keep the moisture on your hands during the night, use a plain, thick, and little greasy hand cream. This simple treatment will make your hands and fingernails look healthy in the morning. What’s more, it will preserve the good shape of your cuticles, and prevent appearance of premature signs of aging such as wrinkles or sagging skin.

4. Brush Your Teeth
After having your dinner, brush and floss your teeth prior to bedtime. In this way, you will help your mouth stay free from infections, cavities, and germs. Also, you will avoid bad breath in the morning.

Before going to bed, brush your teeth’s outer and inner surfaces for around two minutes with a fluoride-free toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush. Then, rinse your mouth with warm water. This will help you enjoy a beautiful smile during the entire day. Don’t brush your teeth right after having a meal, but allow to pass half an hour, particularly if you have an acidic meal. If your brush the teeth immediately after eating, you might push the acid deeper in the dentin.

5. Use Eye Cream
The first area on your skin that shows signs of aging is the area around your eyes. That’s why it’s important to take proper care of this skin area. Every night before going to bed, remove your eye makeup, and apply some eye cream. The use of eye cream will help hydrate, moisturize, reduce, and de-puff dark circles, reducing the wrinkle appearance, and temporarily tightening the area below your eyes.

Choose a lightweight eye cream that contains peptides, caffeine, brighteners, and antioxidants. Begin applying the eye cream from the inner eye corners and continue towards the outer corners with gentle massages.

6. Apply Petroleum Jelly on Your Feet
You mustn’t ignore your feet in the nightly beauty regimen, as they are reflection of one’s personality and health. Wash your feet with warm water, and pat them dry. Massage them with foot cream or petroleum jelly, focusing on the rough and dry parts to soften them and to prevent cracked heels. Put on socks and go to bed. Regular 5-minute foot massages with circular motions before bedtime, will help you relax and have a better sleep-quality.

7. Pin Up Your Hair
Sleeping with a tied up hair is always a better option, as it is beneficial not only for your hair, but also for your face. Pin your hair up in a bun, or braid it before going to bed to avoid tangles and knots in the morning. This will prevent your hair touching your face while sleeping, and this is important if you have in mind that hair contains dirt and oils that can cause acne breakouts and pimples.

8. Switch to Silk Pillowcases
Your hair and skin will greatly benefit if you sleep on a silk bed sheets and silk pillowcase. The 18 essential amino acids and many natural proteins in the silk will keep the beautiful and young appearance of your skin. What’s more, you will no longer have a ‘sleep line’ or a ‘sleep-crease’ that appears when you sleep on a cotton pillowcase.

Your hair can also benefit from the silky, smooth silk. Your hair will slide smoothly so you will prevent its damaging. A cotton pillowcase causes hair to knot, bunch, and become unruly.

9. Turn on a Humidifier
If you turn on a humidifier during night, especially in the winter, it will add moisture to the air in your bedroom. This simple practice will soothe your itchy, dry, and cracked skin. A humidifier can easily treat symptoms of psoriasis, eczema, and other skin condition which are aggravated by low humidity levels. Therefore, sleep with a humidifier to support beautiful skin.

10. Get Your Beauty Sleep
You need your beauty sleep at night after having a busy day at work. Your look during the day can be greatly affected by the duration and nature of your night sleep. Cells repair and grow when you sleep, which is why sleep is regarded as a rejuvenating treatment. You need 7-8 hours of good sleep to keep your young look and to prevent appearance of aging signs like fine lines, wrinkles, dull complexion, and dark circles.

If you want to have a high-quality sleep, you should keep a regular bedtime, keep your phone in another room, switch of the TV, avoid coffee before going to bed, and take a warm shower or bath in the evening.

If you include these beauty habits before you go to bed, you will wake up with a beautiful and radiant skin and hair.

How to Use Rice Water for Beautiful Hair and Flawless Skin!

Asian people include rice in almost every meal. But, besides being part of their diet, they have also included this food in their beauty regimen.

This ingredient promotes both, our health and beauty, thanks to the contained vitamin B, C, and E, minerals, and 8 essential amino acids. Rice water is packed with nutrients that are exceptionally beneficial for our hair and skin.

You get rice water by boiling or soaking rice in water. The milky white solution at the end can be diluted, concentrated, or even fermented if you like to take advantage of all of its benefits. Rice water is probably one of the cheapest and simplest home beauty products. All you need to prepare it is rice and some water.

You can prepare rice water by either boiling the rice, or without boiling it.

Learn how to make it with boiling:

First, rinse a cup of organic rice with fresh water, and then cook it with three cups of water in an uncovered pan. Then, strain the water in a separate container, and once it cools, transfer it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. After this period, you can prepare a mixture for your beauty regimen by diluting 1-2 tbsp. of the concentrated solution in a cup of water. You’ll get almost milky-looking solution that you can use as needed.

How to make it without boiling:

After washing a cup of organic water with water, add two cups of clean water. Let it soak for 15-30 minutes, and then stir well. Drain the water in a separate container and store it in the fridge for 3-4 days. Before using the rice water, shake it well.

Another way is to allow fermentation by keeping the drained water at a room temperature for two days. To use the fermented water, mix one part of it with tree parts of plain water. You can use your rice water in your daily hair and skin care routine. You will no longer have to buy costly hair and skin cosmetic products loaded with chemicals.

These are the rice water benefits for hair and skin:

1. Improves Hair Health
This water will make your hair strong, soft, and healthy. The protein in rice water is beneficial for your hair that is otherwise consisted of protein. It fills in the cracks and strengthens the hair shafts, making your hair soft and shiny. What’s more, rice water contains a kind of carbohydrate called inositol, which protects the hair from damage, maintaining it soft and healthy. It can even be used in the treatment of hair loss, as it increases the growth of new hair.

Shampoo your hair, and then pour it with rice water diluted with water. Massage your scalp with your fingers for about 10 minutes. Wash your hair thoroughly with clean water. Do this 2-3 times weekly.
You can add several drops of lavender, rosemary, or geranium essential oils, or green tea to the rice water before using it for an extra nourishment. Don’t forget diluting the fermented rice water before using it on your hair.

2. Tames Frizzy Hair
Rice water is especially beneficial for unmanageable and frizzy hair. It will deep condition your hair thanks to the good amount of protein it contains. It will also improve its elasticity and help you detangle it. The International Journal of Cosmetic Science has published a 2010 study which investigated the history of the hair care habits and hairstyles of Japanese women. The researchers discovered that they have rinsed their hair with rice water every day. Rice water improves hair elasticity and reduces surface friction.

After shampooing your hair, wash it with cool water. Rinse it again with a solution prepared by mixing fermented rice water and bath water in 1:3 ratio. For best results, do this once or twice a week.

3. Soothes Irritated Skin
Rice water is also useful in the treatment of dry skin lesions of eczema thanks to the starch in its content. It can also soothe skin inflammation and irritation. Acta Dermato Venereologica has published a 2002 study according to which exposing your damaged skin on bath water with rice starch two times a day for 15 minutes, will improve the healing capacity of the skin by 20%. This bath is especially recommended for atopic dermatitis patients, and anyone with barrier damaged skin.

You can also add several cups of rice water to your warm bath for any kind of skin inflammation or irritation. Soak in the water for around 20 minutes, 2 times a day.
If you have irritation on certain part of your skin, apply cotton ball soaked in cool rice water. Do this several times on a daily basis.

4. Tightens Skin Pores
If you have large or open pores, you have more chances of getting blackheads and acne. People with oily skin are especially prone to open pores. Rice water is very effective in this kind of skin problems. It functions as a natural astringent to tighten and tone your skin, restoring its pH balance and reducing the open pores.

Mix rice water and plain water in equal amounts. Apply soaked cotton ball in the mixture onto your face, and allow it to stay for 15-20 minutes. Then, wash your face. For optimal results, do this every night on a cleansed face.

5. Improves Skin Complexion
You can also improve your skin complexion with the help of rice water. It will increase its elasticity, flush toxins out of the skin, and lower inflammation, making it flawless.

Moreover, rice water prevents hyperpigmentation and aging spots. Apply cotton pads soaked in diluted rice water on your clean face. Let them stay for 5-10 minutes, and then massage your face in circular motions for few more minutes. Wash your face with lukewarm water. Do this beauty treatment once a day.

6. Softens the Skin
Rice water is excellent if you want a soft and moisturized skin. It contains a protein which doesn’t allow water loss, thus keeping the moisture of the skin much longer. Furthermore, the antioxidants it contains reduce free radical damage caused by sun exposure, aging, and environmental factors.

Dilute one part of rice water with two parts of cool water. Take a clean washcloth, and soak it in the solution. Then, put it on your face, previously cleaned, and let it act for at least 15 minutes. Wash your face with rest of the rice water for a smooth and soft skin. After that, wash your face with clean water. Do this once a day.

More Tips

Use whatever variety of rice you like: white, jasmine, brown rice, etc.
Before using the rice, wash it with water to remove any particles
Choose organic rice whenever you can, as it doesn’t contain pesticides
Always dilute the rice water when you want to use it for a hair treatment. Otherwise, it might cause lumps or accumulate in your hair over time

The Absolute Best Vitamins and Minerals for Beautiful Skin

Vitamin A
Vitamin A (retinoic acid) offers the benefits of good vision, cell growth, and in the case of skin, increased collagen production. Although dermatologists used to believe that these topicals made the skin more sun sensitive, we now know that they protect against further ultraviolet (UV) damage. Just a pea-size amount can lead to an even complexion, softer facial lines, and acne prevention.

Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, is one of the eight vitamins found in vitamin B complex. Each B vitamin has a unique function, and they all work in tandem to maintain health. B vitamins are water soluble and not retained by the body, so it’s important to get what we need through diet or supplementation. B12 keeps nerves and red blood cells in check. It boosts skin metabolism, allowing nutrients to more readily access our largest organ. This also results in healthier hair, because as the nutrients reach your scalp and help folicles to grow strong. Take note: B12 also keeps hair color vibrant!

Eat: Meats such as liver, eggs, dairy products, shellfish, fortified cereals, or supplement*

*Ask your doctor what dose may be right for you.

Vitamin C
One of the best antioxidants around, vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) helps to protect us against the free radical damage inflicted on the skin from unprotected UV exposure and pollutants. It boosts collagen production, decreases marks, and reduces overall inflammation in sun-exposed areas. A bonus? Vitamins C and A work perfectly together, with no irritation, to turn back the hands of time.

Eat: Fresh citrus fruits

Vitamin D
Although vitamin D is a heavy hitter when it comes to heart health, bone health, and overall immunity, some research shows that it can also benefit the skin. According to a 2004 study, topical vitamin D was found to prevent wrinkles and protect against environmental stressors. Although D is not an antioxidant, it’s thought to act in a similar capacity. Enjoy the sun, but remember to protect yourself.

Eat: Fatty wild fish such as salmon, tuna, mackerel, cheese, egg yolks, and fortified dairy/juice products, or supplement*

*Ask your doctor what dose may be right for you.

Vitamin E
A well-regarded antioxidant, vitamin E (tocopherol) certainly has some all-over health benefits. But when it comes to skin, it’s a little tricky. Touted as the ultimate scar remedy and in some cases an eczema cure, there is little science behind these claims. In fact, according to the American Contact Dermatitis Society, this vitamin is one of the most common culprits of skin allergies. Because there are ample other options, the best advice here would be to proceed with caution, if at all.

Folic Acid
Folic is a firming force on the skin. It helps to remove toxins, a benefit to any organ, and is a notorious source of glowing hair.

Eat: Leafy green vegetables, bananas, oranges, beans, tomatoes, meat, fish, eggs, legumes, cereals, mushrooms, strawberries, and broccoli

Vitamin H
Brittle nails? It’s biotin time. This vitamin is reliable in its ability to strengthen and grow. Avoid splits and tears especially as pool time approaches. Let’s get those hands summer ready.

Eat: Peanuts, almonds, wheat bran, salmon, low-fat cheese, avocados, or supplement*

*Ask your doctor what dose may be right for you.

Vitamin K
Eye circles? They may come from genetics, pigmentation, or leaky capillaries. If it’s leaky capillaries, vitamin K may be the key ingredient needed to plug the leak, as it plays an critical role in clotting.

Nicotinamide
Australian researchers did a study suggesting that nicotinamide (vitamin B3) significantly reduced the incidence of non-melanoma skin cancers among people who have had a previous basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. In a yearlong study of 386 people, half of the group took 500 milligrams of nicotinamide twice a day and the other half were given a placebo. The researchers found that people who took the vitamin cut their chances of developing new skin cancers by 23 percent. Nicotinamide also may have a benefit in reducing skin redness. That’s power!

Omega-3 Fatty Acids
These are good fats. They have been credited with promoting a healthy heart and healthy skin. By regulating cell membranes, omegas keep in the good and block out the bad.

Eat: Seafood (especially tuna and salmon), walnuts, canola oil, and flaxseed

Q10
Coenzyme Q10 reduces cell damage and helps cell turnover. In a Japanese clinical trial, adults who took coenzyme Q10 orally noted a reduction in wrinkle depth after just two weeks.

Selenium
Selenium is most beneficial when is comes to decreasing redness—meaning that post-workout flush. It also can help with dandruff and scalp flakes.

Titanium Dioxide
Over 90 percent of the signs of visible aging and skin cancers come from unprotected exposure to UV light. Choosing a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher with titanium dioxide (a naturally occurring mineral) can help protect your skin. Mineral sunscreens block out sunlight before it’s absorbed into the skin. They are often less irritating than products that contain chemicals. Another plus: They effectively protect against other sources that can contribute to skin damage such as visible light and even the glow that comes from your smartphone.

Zinc
Zinc is not only a top sun protector, it’s a zit-zapper too. It reduces the inflammatory response involved in the production of acne. Because it helps cell turnover, it may also decrease some of the oil production leading to clogged pores.

Eat: Oysters, beef, pumpkin and squash seeds, and cashews

8 Reasons Why Your Skin Is Dry

Hot Showers
Ahh, that heat, it is so good for the soul. But unfortunately it’s not so great for the skin. Hot showers are a big culprit when it comes to dryness; the scorching temps can suck oils out of the skin. No need to go icy—just stick to warm, not hot. If this is a non-negotiable part of your morning routine, try to cleanse quickly, and then step out. The residual steam can actually add to skin moisture. If you take baths, adding a few drops of oils or some oats can soothe the skin. (Note: The same goes for central heating and wood-burning stoves!)

Washing
Certain soaps can be high in pH, stripping the skin of lipids, proteins, and oils and destroying our protective barrier. That squeaky-clean feeling means that the skin has lost moisture and the ability to keep out irritants. If you prefer bar-shaped cleansers, there are pH-neutral products that can do the job while actually helping to hydrate.

The Wrong Moisturizer
Remember: Lotions are less hydrating than creams. Lotions are primarily water, while creams are made mostly of oils. After finishing the shower, pat (don’t rub!) the skin dry with a cotton towel, and then immediately apply a skin cream like Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream. Waiting too long can mean compromising hydration, so lock it in quickly. Although heavily fragranced products are often preferred, they can often cause irritant dermatitis, an itchy, dry rash.

Swimming
Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise—easy on the joints and great for the heart. But those who get their fix in a pool may notice flaky, irritated, itchy skin. This is because of the high chlorine content necessary to keep the water void of bacteria and other germs. Don’t sweat it! Keep up that cardio—just lube up with cream (like Vaseline Petroleum Jelly Deep Moisture Cream) after your last lap.

Thyroid Issues
Sometimes dry skin can be a sign of a systemic issue or a hormonal imbalance. Fatigue, constipation, cold intolerance, muscle weakness, weight gain, hoarseness, thin hair, depression, heavy menstrual periods, along with a noticeable lack of skin moisture can be symptoms of hypothyroidism, a condition that occurs when the thyroid hormone is too low. Another instance? The plummeting estrogen levels seen in peri-menopause and menopause can lead to dryness and accentuation of fine lines. It would certainly be a good idea to consult a health care provider if you’re concerned about any of these symptoms. To add moisture, look for ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or naturally occurring lipids that can plump up the skin, while simultaneously infusing a good dose of H2O.

Your Mojito and Morning Joe
The harsh truth: Both alcohol and coffee are diuretics, which means they make you pee a lot. And this depletes the water supply to all organs (if too excessive). Keep alcohol and caffeine to a minimum and make sure to drink water throughout the day.

The Sun
In addition to causing cancer and wrinkles, the sun can dry you out. Prolonged exposure to those ultraviolet rays literally causes water to evaporate from the skin. Make sure to avoid sugary beverages while enjoying the great outdoors because they just add insult to injury. And it’s not just good weather to plan for: Cold weather and windy conditions are very drying too. In addition to drinking water, choose wisely when packing that picnic for your beach trip. Seek out foods that have a high water content, such as avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers, melon, pineapple, peppers, and nuts. Guac, anyone?

Something More Serious
Sometimes dry skin is a symptom of another skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis. If there is no identifiable cause for your redness, scale, itchiness, or anything more than standard rash, a trip to your dermatologist to sort things out may be your next best step.

This 4-Hour Acne Spot Treatment Actually Works

I am all but completely convinced that skin is not only sentient, it’s also spiteful. How else to explain the fact that I seem to always get a painful, deep, under-the-surface superlump the day before any event for which I would want to look my best or make a good impression — a date, a job interview, a performance (I’m a singer), etc.

It happened just this past weekend. I felt a bruise-like pain on the right side of my chin when I yawned on Saturday morning. A quick poke with my finger confirmed that a pretty major pimple had risen from the depths of hell to sabotage my face 36 hours before a date. I looked in the mirror to find a visibly raised and red cyst near the point of popping and clearly determined to be the third wheel.

Although I have a number of spot treatments lying around my apartment, I had recently stumbled upon Murad’s Rapid Relief Acne Spot Treatment, which makes quite a claim on the packaging: “Reduces blemish size and redness within 4 hours.”

Four hours!

I had my doubts. Although it contains the maximum over-the-counter amount of salicylic acid (2%), so do any number of other acne treatments; it’s the gold-standard ingredient when it comes to clearing pores and exfoliating away breakouts. What about this particular formula could possibly make it work so quickly?

I applied a tiny amount of the clear, lightweight gel and was pleased to see how quickly it became invisible on my skin. The matte, non-flaking finish would have made it ideal for layering concealer on top, but I didn’t apply any. For one, I was just at home doing laundry but also: I wanted to keep an eye on what was supposed to be the rapid demise of my zit.

At the four-hour mark, I noticed that it was much less painful than it had been earlier in the day. When I looked in the mirror, I saw that the inflammation had subsided, the redness was less obvious and the bump had gone from the size of a grapefruit to that of a significantly smaller and less noticeable fruit.

Although it wasn’t gone, the cyst had, in fact, shrunk in four hours, just as the box promised.

The next morning, I was pleased to see it had marched closer to its death, transforming into the perfect little ready-to-go whitehead that I couldn’t resist popping. (I know, I know — I’m a beauty editor and I should know better, but old habits, yadda yadda…) I put a little more of the product on the area, covered it with concealer and went out into the world confident that a glaring orb on my chin wouldn’t be the first thing my date saw when he looked at me.

By Monday, there was no trace of my sebum saboteur.

Even though I failed chemistry in high school, the science that goes into cosmetic formulasintrigues me to no end, so I reached out to Murad to find out what, exactly, allows Rapid Relief Acne Spot Treatment to work so well. It turns out that, in addition to the potent salicylic acid, it contains monoterpenes and avenathramides.

Don’t worry — I had no idea what those were either, so I did a little research. The monoterpenes are organic compounds usually found in botanical extracts like that of pine and thyme. They have antimicrobial properties that fight the bacteria behind the breakout. As for avenathramides, they’re compounds found in oats, and they’re proven to sooth skin and bring down redness.

I still don’t quite understand chemistry. But I sure do appreciate it, especially when it means zapping a zit in under a day.

30-Second Daily Skin Care Tips That Will Make You Look 10 Years Younger

There are certain methods you can do in order to look younger and fresher.

Surely you take care of your skin on a daily basis, change the pillowcase regularly, and many other things that are of great importance for the health of the skin.

We will present you a lot of other things which can help you to rejuvenate and soften your skin:

1. Never go to bed with your makeup on. That is the worst thing you can do for the skin

2. After cleaning, massage your face with your fingertips in order to improve the circulation of blood, stimulate the face muscles, and prevent the appearance of wrinkles.

3. Never pop the pimples, it will make them worse.

4. Don’t touch the face with your hands, unless they are clean. All the time we are exposed to bacteria and germs and we will transfer them if we touch our face.

5. Eat products which are skin-friendly.

6. Your eye creams need to be stored in the fridge which will keep them cold.

7. Ice cubes are bad news for pimples. Speaking of cooler temperatures, an ice cube can be your best friend if you’re dealing with an angry, red blemish.

8. The best natural remedies are the ones you can find in your kitchen as coconut oil, sugar scrubs, oatmeal, olive oil, and tea treatment.

9. You need to clean your mobile phone regularly to prevent the bacteria and germs from transferring to your face.

10. You need to have separate towels for the hair and face.

11. Make sure to change your pillowcase regularly

12. Be careful when applying hair products, because they can damage the skin.

13. Understand what your acne breakouts are trying to tell you.

Acne is your body’s way of communicating that there’s something wrong internally. That pimple on your forehead? You might be having liver issues. A breakout near your chin? A hormone imbalance is probably to blame.

14. You need to drink a lot of water and stay hydrated.

15. Eat organic food.

16. Make sure to exfoliate your skin regularly and remove dead skin cells.

17. Always use products which are natural, because the fragranced masks and face creams have a lot of chemicals which are harmful to your skin and can cause irritation.

How To Make Your Breasts Bigger Without Having To Gain Weight

Women have different body compositions, i.e. some have denser breasts with less fatty tissue, whereas others have more fatty tissue. This is why not all women gain or lose breast weight in the same way. Since a lot of women want to have bigger breasts, the easiest way to achieve this, as they believe, is to gain weight. However, not all women want to put on extra weight just for the sake of bigger breasts and not all women want to undergo a surgery.

Luckily, there are natural ways to achieve this. This should be a combination of several lifestyle changes, like regular workout and herbal treatments. When it comes to the lifestyle changes, you will need to include more exercise, especially exercises that target the breasts. For example, you should regularly do pushups, lift dumbbells, wall presses, and chest presses as well. With their help, you will build up muscle in the breast area and make your breasts larger, firmer, and perkier.

These exercises are very easy and they will take up only several minutes of your time:

Adjust your workout bench to 60 degrees and take 2 dumbbells. Lie on the bench and rest the dumbbells on your thighs. Then, bring the dumbbells up to shoulder height, the palms facing forward. Press them straight up in the air over your chest until they are an inch apart. Afterwards, lower them down gradually.

Breast massage is another great way to better the circulation and the absorption of nutrients. This will result in increase of the breasts. Massage them daily. Furthermore, when it comes to your bras, make sure you’re wearing the right size since wrong size will make your breasts look smaller, saggier, and less attractive. Posture is also important so work on it as well.

According to some women, certain herbs have helped them increase their breast size. Some of them are:

Fenugreek– it encourages prolactin production which influences the enlargement of the breasts.

Fennel- fennel and fennel seeds have an abundance of flavonoids that encourage the growth of breast tissue cells.

Saw palmetto- this herb prevents surplus testosterone which is known to hinder breast development.
