10 Tricks to Beat Sciatic Pain without Taking Harmful Drugs & Painkillers!

Sciatica is the pain felt when the sciatic nerve is agitated due to bulging discs, inflammation, arthritis, or other condition or problem which causes pain, tingling, and numbness radiating from the lower back down the leg(s). According to statistics, around 40 percent of all people in U.S. will suffer from sciatica at some point in their life.

In this post, you will learn 10 tricks to relieve your sciatic pain and support your back.

1. Strengthen Your Abs, Core, and Torso Muscles

You need to have a strong and stable core to support the rest of your body. You can achieve that by doing simple stretches, exercises, and even yoga.

2. Change Your Routines

Doing the same movements over and over again can weaken your muscles, putting more strain on your lower back and aggravating your sciatica pain. Use your pillow in a different way, go for a walk, sit in a different position, or carry your bag on a different shoulder.

Keep changing your routines by trying new things to keep yourself mentally and physically active. Although this might be hard for you at first, as we are all creatures of habit, and do things the same way year after a year, don’t give up and be persistent! Trying something new and breaking up the old patterns can make a huge difference.

3. Commit to Better Posture

Another bad everyday habit that is not easy to change. When you are tired, it’s probably hard to sit up straight, with your feet flat on the floor and your mobile phone or computer at a proper height.

You must try avoiding the neck, back, and core problems you cause when looking down at your mobile phone. So, whenever you notice yourself slumping forward, open up your chest by taking deep breath. Imagine a rod is going down your spine while pointing the top of your head upwards. Your hips and shoulders should be equally balanced.

You might be sore at the beginning, but don’t forget that it takes time to build up your muscles that will enable a good posture for your body. A great trick is using an exercise ball, as recommended by Dr. Sean Roden. When sitting on one of these balls you are balancing your body by keeping a good posture. This is a quick way to build up your posture muscles and core muscles all at once.

4. Stretching

A great way to prevent over-staining and keep everything loose is doing stretches. Dr. Sean Roden recommends another great tip for treating lower back problems. He says stretching and rolling out the hamstring muscles can be really helpful in such cases.

Your waist can bend only around 60 percent when bending forward. So, if you need to bend more, you have to pivot forward to compensate. But, you will risk overstraining your back if your hamstring muscles on the back of the thigh are tight. Try stretching, massaging, or use a roller to take care of your legs in order to help them support your back and alleviate your sciatic pain.

5. Lift Properly

You must care about your back when lifting some heavy object. Lifting some object while your body is at a wrong angle can cause great damage and leave painful scar tissue that is hard to overcome.

Use a dolly or tool when lifting a heavy object, such as a large box or a gallon of water. Lift using your leg muscles and not your back, and make sure you have a stable posture. Don’t pick any object by bending forward at the waist. Even if you have to lift something light, its weight will increase by the time it getsto your back, increasing the risk of straining something. Another way is to ask for help.

6. Take Time to Relax

Relieving stress can greatly affect your sciatica pain. If you think stress is totally unrelated to sciatica, you are wrong. Stress increases the acidity in the body, causing inflammation and more pain.

Great ways to relieve your stress is meditation, reading a good book, taking a nice bubble bath, or simply taking deep breaths. Also, you can learn some tools for managing stress.  At some point in your life you may feel like carrying the weight of the world on your back. This can cause body aches, so the best way is to relax by taking some time for yourself, or asking for help.

7. Lighten Your Load

Do you really need all the items that are in your bag or backpack? Take a closer look at them, and decide which is not necessary to lighten your load.

But, if you can’t decide what to exclude, and you need to carry a lot of items with you, get a more back friendly backpack or bag. If you carry a bag, switch your shoulders more often, and take breaks to rest your back.

8. Wear the Right Shoes and Use Orthotics

You should always wear comfortable and right shoes to provide proper support for your back. Using some arch supports or other shoe inserts can further improve your posture and back condition.

With every step you take, the impact from your feet goes up your legs into the base of your spine. Wearing good quality orthopedic shoes will bring positive changes in the way you feel. This explains why you need to avoid wearing flip flops, high heels, and other shows which don’t support your back. Wear them only when needed, such as some special occasions.

9. Wear an Abdominal Binder

If you are about to do some physical activity, wearing an abdominal binder or a back brace can help you a lot. In this way, you will provide support for your back and joints, and prevent possible injuries.

However, don’t wear it all the time since that can weaken your muscles. Just wear it for short periods of time when trying to build up your core muscles, and then only in case of intense physical labor.

10. Pay Attention to Your Exercise Routine

Don’t forget to pay attention to your body and notice for any pain when cleaning your house, exercising, or doing yoga. Certain amount of muscle soreness is normal after exercise, but it should disappear within several days.

If you notice pain when doing some specific moves, you might need to do less intense exercise or adaptation moves to strengthen and support your body. Your pain is there for a reason and you need to prevent it from worsening.

Certain things like changed barometric pressure can also cause nerve and joint flare-ups. Therefore, you need to go easy on your body during these time periods in order to prevent aggravating your existing problem.

In case your pain is constant and gets only worse, you should consult your doctor.

Top 8 Natural Treatments For Sciatic Pain

The sciatic nerve is one of the largest nerves in the body. It begins at the lower spine and runs through the buttocks and down the lower limb to the foot. This nerve provides movement, feeling and strength in the legs.

About 40% of the world’s population will suffer from sciatica at some point in their lives. Sciatica is a condition that can cause pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness in the lower limbs, but it is often mistaken for lower back pain or even leg cramps. It starts as a pressure or pinch on the nerve, and then continues as a pain down the back to the legs.

You can experience a mild ache and numbness, or a sharp, burning and extremely painful sensation that affects one side of the body. The pain and discomfort can require people to stay in bed, and most of them often take ibuprofen or some other over-the-counter medication to relieve the pain.

In this article, we will give you eight natural ways to treat the inflammation and relieve the pain.

1. Acupuncture

This alternative treatment involves inserting hair-fine needles at certain points on the body. Acupuncture boosts the flow of energy and also contributes to proper nerve function. You should feel some relief after the very first treatment, but many people would benefit by receiving a few sessions.

It seems that lately, acupuncture is more popular than ever. It is used in the treatment of various health conditions, such as relieving migraines, stimulating the lymph flow, treating stress and helping to quit smoking.

2. Chiropractic Adjustments

Studies based on chiropractic adjustments have shown different levels of effectiveness in treating sciatica, but many patients have experienced significant relief. Manipulating the spine can restore mobility, improve function, reduce inflammation, decrease pain, and promote natural healing.

3. Ice Packs

Ice packs, or a simple package of frozen peas wrapped in a towel, can work wonders to provide instant relief for sciatica. Apply the packs directly on the affected area for 20 minutes, every two hours, until the pain is completely gone.

4. Alternate Temperatures

Ice packs are a proven way to get instant relief, but the sciatic nerve is located deep in the body, so the packs cannot go deeper to where the inflammation is located.

Apply a hot pack, right after the ice pack — or better yet, take a hot bath. By alternating the temperatures, you can boost the circulation and lymph flow. This will reduce the deeper inflammation and aid in the healing process. For even better results, add some Epsom salts or anti-inflammatory herbs or essential oils to your bath.

5. Mild (Yoga) Stretches

When you struggle with sciatica, moving around is probably the last thing that comes to mind. But it is important to be active, because otherwise the pain can last longer. Many people have confirmed that gentle back or yoga stretches really enhance their healing process.

These exercises will stimulate the blood flow, strengthen your back muscles and improve your mobility.

6. Massage

Deeper massaging or trigger-point therapies have shown great success in the treatment of muscle spasms, pain, and numbness of the legs and toes. Herb-infused oils and essential oils will also give you good results.

If you need more information regarding essential oils, the e-book Magical Aromatherapy can help you discover the effectiveness of these oils and show you how to unleash their power.

7. Herbs And Oils

Nature provides many herbs that have beneficial effects, and many of them can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation. They can be found in capsules, salves, liniments and infused oils. You can also make tea from fresh or dried herbs, or use elixirs, tinctures and essential oils to relieve pain. But, make sure you consult your doctor or a professional herbalist, because some herbs may interfere with medications you may take.

Following is a list of some herbs you can use these to treat nerve pain, inflammation, and improve nerve health:

  • Devil’s claw
  • Jamaican dogwood
  • Turmeric or curcumin (combine it with black pepper to increase its bioavailability)
  • Kratom
  • Arnica
  • White willow bark
  • Skullcap
  • St. John’s wort
  • Mullein root
  • Roman chamomile
  • Clary Sage
  • Lavender

8. Sleep

Last, but not least, try to get enough sleep. In doing so, this will give your nerves and body time to relax, heal and balance. Extra sleep and rest will help rebuild and strengthen your nerves.

Even though these complementary and alternative remedies are not confirmed by scientific evidence, many people have experienced significant improvements, and have managed to control pain, spasms, numbness, and cramps.

If the symptoms and pain last longer than a few weeks, be sure to consult a doctor, as there is the possibility that you have a dislocated vertebrae, or some other condition that is causing pressure or pinching your nerves. If necessary, surgery is always an option.

5 Soothing Essential Oils To Rub On Your Sciatic Nerve For Instant Pain Relief

This Herb Effectively Removes Back and Sciatica Pain Easy and Naturally!

Low back pain is one of the most common health problems today, and it is estimated that 80% of the population during their lifetime has at least once pain in the lower back or lumbar, lower part of the spine. Thus, low back pain has become a major public health problem because it is the most common cause of absence from work.It is known in many names, one of which is known lumbago, and one of the popular is “hexenschuss” or witch stab which talks about the sudden emergence and character of the disease.

WHAT IS IT?

Spine is anatomically complicated set of vertebrae (of which 7 cervical, 12 thoracic and 5 lumbar mobile), cartilage rings that allow the launch of the vertebrae, and is associated with a number of muscles, nerves, blood vessels and ligaments, forming the main body bearing assembly. It allows us upright posture, vertebrae arranged in a tube shape shielding canal through which passes the spinal cord and nerve roots of the arms and legs.

Therefore, because of its multiple functions spine is exposed to constant mechanical action of the load (pressure, train, shear, bending, twisting), which can cause overuse.
Some parts of the spine (cervical, thoracic and lumbar) have a different range of motion, from which the neck is extremely mobile, and the breast part is very low mobility.
At the transition between one part of the spine to another usually leads to degenerative changes, which are a source of pain.

RISK CATEGORY

These are all people who work hard physical work or several hours are in adverse postures, mainly sedentary job, older men in whom there were a degenerative process, people with osteoporosis or some congenital anomalies of the spine after injuries and operations of the spine.

TREATMENT AND PREVENTION

The herb comfrey, which grows on wet meadows, fields and ditches near the water, it can make life easier for millions of people struggling with back pain, say researchers.
Ointment containing the extract of this plant successfully passed testing for five days to fully heal back pain. The researchers examined 120 people with pain in the lower and upper back.

The research was conducted by scientists at the German Sports University in Bonn, and the results were published in the British Journal of Sports Medina. Comfrey root extract is an incredibly powerful and clinically proven to effectively reduce acute pain, according to an explanation of the research results.

This plant has a root as beet and large, hairy leaves and herbalists have been used it since ancient times. Previous studies have also shown that comfrey effectively removes other types of pain and proved to be excellent in gel form against the pain and dislocation of joints in osteoarthritis and the knee. But it should not be taken in the form of capsules and supplements because it can be toxic to the liver.

Comfrey Healing Ointment:

This ointment is easy to prepare using just a few ingredients.

  • Ingredients: (yield: 300ml, shelf life: several months, approx)
  • 300ml vegetable oil (I used olive, although sunflower is also recommended)
  • large handful of fresh comfrey leaves (next time I will allow mine to wilt for a day or so, just so they aren’t so ‘splattery’ in the oil
  • 25g-30g beeswax, grated for faster melting

Instructions:

So back to the infusing, I place the oil into a small pot and as many comfrey leaves I thought could fit in there and placed (jammed) the lid on. The oil was gently heated over a low heat until the leaves were mushy, wilted and the oil had turned green. It was a bit of a guessing process as this was the first ointment I had made. I would think the slow cooker would perform this task beautifully, too. I also suggests heating the oil in a stove-top water bath (bain marie), to be sure the oil does not overheat and burn.
The oil was left to cool slightly and then strained. For a stronger oil, this process could be repeated a second and third time if need be.

The grated beeswax was then added to the comfrey oil and placed back over a low heat for a couple of minutes, until the beeswax had melted into the oil. This was then poured into a clean salsa jar and left uncovered until set. It’s worth noting that any residue in the bottom of the pan should be left in there and not added to the jar as this excess moisture will cause the ointment to spoil faster than usual.

Apply as needed by rubbing a small amount onto the affected area (not to be used on broken skin – just aches and pains) as often as needed. Comfrey ointment really does relieve pain fast.
