Drink This Beverage And Forget About Heart Diseases And Stroke

This incredible remedy lies in walnuts, or, more precise, in walnuts’ baffles, which are located between the kernels. This remedy is especially recommended for smokers. Narrowing of the coronary arteries is often a result of chronic nicotine poisoning, as well as the consumption of fatty foods.

Tea made of walnuts’ baffles acts against blockage of the coronary arteries, heart diseases and high body temperature.

Use walnuts’ barriers, located among the walnut kernels, to prepare tea. Soak 4-5 walnut compartments in the evening and boil them in the morning as you prepare tea. Drink the tea on an empty stomach.

It is recommendable to drink this tea on a regular basis because it allows great blood circulation, regulates blood pressure and soothes chest pains.

This tea is also great for dealing with temperature associated with heart pain.

You will feel improvement after the first consumed cup of this tea.

Avoid This Beverage to Reduce Your Risk of Having a Stroke and Heart Attack

A single can of Red Bull can increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke, whether you’re young or old. It is loaded with caffeine and makes the blood sticky, which can be a pre-cursor to stroke and other cardiovascular problems. In just one hour after consuming a can of Red Bull, your blood can become as abnormal as someone’s with cardiovascular disease.

Norway, Uruguay, and Denmark have already banned this energy drink, and it was also banned in France from 1996 to 2008. The Ministry of Commerce in Kuwait banned the consumption of Red Bull for children under 16 years of age after it caused a heart attack in a 16-year old and a 21-year old.

Summary of Dr. Mercola’s Comments:

In the last few years, energy drinks have become more popular than ever, and this product has been popping up in every supermarket and store. Energy drinks have overtaken bottled water brands, and they are the fastest-growing category of products in the beverage business.

Last year, about 3.5 billion cans of Red Bull were sold in 143 countries. People keep asking questions on the safety of Red Bull and other energy drinks.

The primary ingredients in energy drinks are caffeine and sugar, found as glucuronolactone, sucrose, and glucose. Energy drinks do provide a quick burst of energy. But this effect does not last for long, so drinking several cans in a row will certainly not turn you into a superhero, regardless of the marketing geniuses who try to convince you otherwise.

According to their official website, Red Bull provides the following benefits:

-Improved performance
-Increased concentration and reaction speed
-Increased endurance
-Increased metabolism

Energy drinks have the same effect as a cup of coffee or soda. But when the effect disappears, you will feel lethargic and soon crave another cup or can, in order to boost your energy again. As you can see, this can easily turn into a vicious cycle.

The company that has created Red Bull warns its consumers that they should not drink more than two cans of their product, but on Red Bull’s website there are no references to this fact.

There is just a statement saying that you should compare your consumption to the consumption of coffee, taking into consideration that a can of Red Bull equals a cup of brewed java.

But the problem with this recommendation is that no one actually knows the net effects of Red Bull. It’s true that coffee contains caffeine, but it does not contain artificial energy-boosting ingredients, including the two artificial sweeteners and other sugars that are in Red Bull.

Aspartame has multiple neurotoxic, metabolic, allergenic, fetal, and carcinogenic effects. It is most certainly not safe and in the book Sweet Deception you can read more about it.

Do energy drinks have health benefits?

With regards to nutrition, if you compare energy drinks to carbonated drinks like soda, soda most certainly doesn’t have any nutrients.  Red Bull contains traces of B vitamins and taurine, an amino acid, but this doesn’t make up for the caffeine and sugar contained in Red Bull.

Caffeine can increase short term reaction speed, but no one can actually say how the combination of ingredients in Red Bull will affect the body.

People should be especially concerned about this, as these companies market their drinks toward young people under the age of 30. In addition to this, energy drinks are largely consumed by students who often drink a few cans at a time.

Who should avoid energy drinks?

As mentioned, children should not consume energy drinks. If you take into consideration their content, it would be wise to avoid these drinks if you are:

  • Pregnant or lactating
  • Sensitive to caffeine
  • Have prolonged periods of anxiety or stress
  • Have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Have a predisposition to cardiovascular disease
  • Have any blood clotting disorder

Researcher Scott Willoughby explained that Red Bull can be deadly when consumed by people who have high blood pressure or suffer from stress, because it can affect proper blood vessel functioning and increase the risk of blood clots.

Deadly when combined with alcohol

By mixing energy drinks and alcohol you are actually mixing a stimulant and a depressant. This is mostly popular at bars and night clubs. When combined with alcohol, Red Bull and other energy drinks are often referred to as “Vodka Bulls”or “Yager Bombs.”

The effect of this combination is still unknown, but experts claim that overloading the body with heavy stimulants and heavy depressants can possibly result in heart failure, and if you take into consideration the previous stories based on fatal outcomes of this deadly mixture, you can see that this is not just a theory.

After several deaths of some people who consumed Red Bull and alcohol together, France and Denmark banned the sale of this energy drink. In 2001, the journal Medicine, Science and Law published an article  published an article that explained the effect of Red Bull and alcohol combined with another stimulant: ephedra.

What is the result? Acute psychosis.

The Journal of the Clinical Autonomic Research Society published an Italian study which reviewed a case of “postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) associated with a vasovagal reaction,” noticed in a young volleyball player after a high intake of Red Bull.

They concluded:

“Considering the widespread use of Red Bull among young people who are often unaware of the drink’s drug content, this case report suggests Red Bull be considered a possible cause of orthostatic intolerance.”

Orthostatic intolerance is actually a condition in which the change from a supine position (when a person lies down) to an upright position results in an abnormally high increase in the heart rate (more than 30 beats per minute, or, a heart rate that is great than 120 beats per minute in 10 minutes after sitting or standing).

POTS is also thought of as a mechanism for chronic fatigue syndrome, and if you struggle with chronic fatigue, energy drinks are not something you should drink, and that is why it is included in the list above.

When it comes to alcohol, you shouldn’t consume it. It is a neurotoxin, meaning that it poisons the brain. Also take into consideration the fact that large amounts of alcohol, even wine,  increase insulin levels, which increases the risk of diabetes and other chronic diseases.

How to boost your energy without energy drinks?

If you drink energy drinks to boost your energy, as most people do, you should know that there are far better options than artificial energy beverages. People are not naturally tired. A lethargic state is something we bring on by some of our lifestyle habits.

Lack of energy is a result of different factors, including:

  • Poor dietary habits
  • Consumption of low-quality foods
  • Stressful life
  • Negative emotions
  • Insufficient sleep
  • Insufficient exercise

You can easily boost your energy by following these tips:

  • Eat according to your nutritional type
  • Increase the intake of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Eliminate grains and sugar from your diet
  • Release the emotional stress and negativity with the help of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  • Sleep when you are tired
  • Exercise regularly

9 Stroke Symptoms That Everyone Ignores

Stroke is a decrease of the blood flow to the brain due to a clot or bleeding and it is considered as an emergency case. Treat it appropriately and on time, and reduce the risk of permanent damage to the brain tissue. So do not waste your time thinking whether you should go to the hospital or not. Learn how to identify the symptoms and react on time!

There are treatments for stroke that should be applied within the first three to four hours after the stroke, including drugs that attack the clot. This is why fast response is crucial, explain neuroscientists.

If you have any of the following symptoms or notice them in another person, immediately call emergency.

Vision Problems

Stroke can cause double vision, blurred image or complete loss of vision in one eye. People obviously do not know this fact, taking into account the results of a study that involved a group of 1,300 people, and showed that only 44 percent of them were aware that stroke can cause vision problems.

Difficulties in Speaking or Confusion

Even in cases of a mild stroke, it may still cause difficulties in communication, as it often impairs the ability to express and understand the speech. If the person cannot normally pronounce a sentence and mixes the words, the chances he or she suffered a stroke are 72 percent.

Weakness in Limbs

After a stroke, the lower limbs usually become weak and harder to control, or even completely paralyzed. The stroke mostly affects the arm or leg on the opposite side of the brain hemisphere that is affected by the stroke. Extend both hands with the palms facing up and hold them in that position for 10 seconds. If one of the arms begins to fall uncontrollably, it indicates weakness in the muscles, which is a sign of stroke.

Dizziness, Loss of Balance

If you suffer from dizziness, nausea, and you cannot move properly, you may have suffered a stroke. Patients often confuse the symptoms of stroke with other medical conditions. Dizziness is sometimes prescribed as a viral symptom, but it can be a completely different sign.

Pain

Pain is not a typical symptom of stroke, but if you feel a sudden and severe pain in your hands, feet, fingers and one side of your face, it is certainly a cause for concern.

Severe Headache

Sudden and extremely severe headache, which can be categorized as one of the worst you have had, is a common symptom of stroke. This pain in combination with stroke commonly occurs in women and younger people who suffered from migraine in the past.

Changes in The Face

Sudden weakness of the muscles on one side of the face can be a clear indication that you have suffered a stroke. Try to smile or show your teeth. If you can not control the muscles on one side of the face, it is almost certain that you have had a stroke.

Hiccups

In normal situations, hiccups are a harmless and short discomfort. But when it comes to stroke, which affects the respiratory center in the brain, it can cause sudden and prolonged hiccups, which happens more often in women.

Heavy Breathing And Tachycardia

You cannot get enough air? You feel like your heart skips a beat or your heartbeat is too fast? Studies have shown that these symptoms of a stroke are more common in women than in men.

Unusual Signs of Stroke in Women That Nobody Talks About

A clot or a blockage in the vein which reaches the brain impedes its ability to receive the needed nutrients and oxygen from the blood and causes a stroke.

The deficiency of blood and oxygen leads to a death of the cells in the brain.

You should know that not only men experience strokes, since as reported by the National Stroke Association, it is the third leading cause of death in women.

Every year, 55,000 more women are dying of it than men. This may be surprising to many, as women in general lead healthier lives and men indulge in harmful habits like drinking and smoking, but apparently, women have a higher risk when it comes to stroke.

Depending on the case, strokes can be of several types. An ischemic stroke is caused by a clot in the vein, a hemorrhagic stroke is a result of a rupture of the blood vessel, while the reason for a transient ischemic attack (TIA) – or a mini-stroke – is a temporary clot.

Mini-strokes usually clear up on their own, but it is an alarming sign of serious health issues in the future. Therefore, you mustn’t ignore it, as it is a question of life or death. It may last the entire day or only a few seconds, but in each case, you should always seek an emergency medical help.

The consequences of stroke are extremely devastating, such as impaired speech, behavioral changes, face physical challenges such as paralysis, cognitive challenges like memory loss and inability to solve problems.

These effects depend on the area of the brain where it occurs,  the severity of the stroke, and how long it takes to get treatment.

To clarify it further:

-If it affects the right side of the brain, it may cause impaired judgment, memory loss, and misjudgment of distances.

-If a stroke occurs in the left part of the brain, it may lead to memory issues, impaired speech, and language, as well as slow and cautious behavior.

-If it affects the cerebellum, which is the part of the brain in charge of balance, it may cause dizziness, balance problems, and abnormal reflexes.

Generally speaking, most women overlook the warning signs of strokes. However, knowing the symptoms may prevent long-term damage, so they should never be ignored. In case you start experiencing any of them, you should immediately call 911.

Causes

Men have a higher risk of having a stroke than women at all ages, but every year, more women die from stroke than man. Why are women at so susceptible to strokes?

Even though men lead more unhealthy lives, and rarely visit doctors, but the reason for the increased risk in women is due to some other big differences between the sexes. It is partially due to the fact that on average women live longer, and age increases the stroke mortality, but that is not all.

The following typical risk factors apply to both women and men:

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Lack of exercise
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • High cholesterol
  • Being overweight
  • Drugs and tobacco

However, there are other risk factors which are women-specific, and dramatically raise the stroke risk, such as:

  • Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
  • Birth control pills
  • Pregnancy
  • Mental health
  • Preeclampsia
  • gestational diabetes
  • postmenopausal hormone use

The following risk factors are more prevalent in women as well:

  • a migraine with aura
  • diabetes mellitus
  • psycho-social stress
  • hypertension
  • depression
  • atrial fibrillation

On the other hand, the following risk factors are with the same prevalence in men and women, but their impact is different without a known reason:

  • obesity
  • Smoking
  • Diet
  • Metabolic syndrome
  • physical inactivity
  • age
  • prior cardiovascular disease

Symptoms of Stroke in Women

Here are the most common symptoms of stroke in woman and men:

  • Trouble with vision
  • Headaches without an evident reason
  • Numbness
  • Weakness and dizziness
  • Confusion

On the other hand, women only can experience the following signs of stroke, so knowing them may save your life:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Agitation
  • Hallucination
  • Fainting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Behavioral changes
  • Hiccups
  • Seizures
  • Pain

Furthermore, you should remember the acronym FAST in order to spot a stroke on time. It has been developed by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to help you easily remember the warning signs of strokes.

It relates to:

  • F – Face Drooping
  • A – Arm Weakness
  • S – Speech Difficulty
  • T – Time to call 911.

Prevention

In order to avoid the severe consequences of strokes, you should take measures to prevent them. First of all, make sure you avoid participating in risky behaviors, like drinking and smoking.

Also, you should consider the following stroke prevention methods:

  • Get tested for diabetes
  • Exercise at least 20 minutes daily
  • Report any mood changes – depression may raise the stroke risk in women
  • Maintain a healthy body weight
  • Monitor your headaches – you should search help if they become more severe migraines
  • Use olive oil for cooking to enjoy its heart benefits
  • Monitoring blood pressure during pregnancy or plan to begin taking birth control
  • Check your cholesterol levels
  • Deal stress
  • Get a healthy amount of sleep, 7-8 hours

If you recognize the early signs of stroke, and immediately seek medical help, you will dramatically reduce its consequences, and prevent long-term damage.

Stroke recovery

The recovery treatment may include rehabilitation therapy and speech therapy to improve skills, as well as assisted care for everyday tasks such as feeding, showering, and dressing.

Furthermore, the changes that need to be implemented may significantly alter the lifestyle. The patient should switch to a healthy diet, and regular exercise, in order to prevent another stroke.

Due to the unique factors which raise the stroke risk in the case of women, they need to know the most common warning signs, and thus prolong their life and prevent the occurrence of stroke.

The regular monitoring of your health condition effectively avoids severe health issues such as stroke. Additionally, even though strokes may occur at any age, note that age can be an important factor as well.

Learn The Differences Between A Stroke, Heart Attack And Cardiac Arrest

It is a mistake to use these three terms “stroke”, ”heart attack” and “cardiac arrest” interchangeably.

Surely, they are all connected to heart, but they are caused by different factors, and show different symptoms and effects on the body.

Therefore, it is of great importance to learn to distinguish these terms in order to find the proper treatment.

This article explains these three conditions and their symptoms, and it indicates how to properly react upon facing with them.

Stroke

Remember, stroke is a brain disorder. There are three types of stroke: Ischemic, transient ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.

When it comes to ischemic stroke, there’s a blockage of the artery which transports blood rich in oxygen to the brain.

On the other hand, in case of transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is also called a“mini-stroke”, the artery which transports blood to the brain temporarily stops transporting the blood. Hemorrhagic stroke appears appears upon rupturing an artery inside brain.

Stroke Symptoms:

-Disrupted speech

-Headaches and vomiting

-Walking inability, accompanied with dizziness

-Mental confusion, like forgetting names, places, and inability to follow a conversation

-Nausea

-Blurred vision, and double seeing

-Numbness of paralysis of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side

-Excessive sweating

-Transient ischemic attack (TIA)

Heart Attack

Heart attack is a circulation disorder.

When the flow of the blood, which is rich in oxygen, is blocked to a certain part of the heart muscle, if not restored, causes dying of the muscle, and results in a heart attack.

In case of a heart attack, the heart continues beating.

Heart Attack Symptoms:

--The heart attack symptoms can occur early on and last several days.

-Lacking of breath and wheezing

-Pain in chest (angina): It is often characterized with heaviness in the middle of the chest, so it can be confused with indigestion. It can come and go in a few minutes.

-Cold sweating

-Aches in the body: pain in the neck, abdomen, back, jaw, and arms, especially the left one.

-Feeling dizziness and lightheadedness

-Nausea

-Grown anxiety

-Coughing

Since these symptoms are connected to the heart, and not to some other system in the body, you can’t treat them with home remedies or medications.

Cardiac Arrest

It’s an “electrical” disorder.

If your heart’s electrical activity undergoes chaos,  it will lead to irregular heart beating, and immediate stop of the blood pumping throughout the body. This condition is cardiac arrest.

In this case, the heartbeat stops completely.

People who have suffered a heart attack have a greater risk of experiencing a cardiac arrest.

Cardiac Arrest Symptoms:

-The most typical signs of a cardiac arrest, are the following:

-Sudden collapse

-Loss of pulse

-Loss of breath

-Lack of responsiveness

-These symptoms are appearing suddenly and can often result in instant death.

Moreover, there are cases when several minutes before a person experiences a cardiac arrest, s/he can feel similar symptoms to those of a heart attack:

-Pain in the chest

-Lacking of breath

-Fainting

-Extreme palpitation

-Blackout

-Weakness

Learn To Identify These Signs That Indicate Stroke

Stroke marks the termination of the operation of certain groups of brain cells, and comes as a result of lack of oxygen or nutrients.

Symptoms can sometimes be hard to see, so you have to note the following:

Main symptoms:

  •  Numbness of the face, arms or legs, especially on one side of the body.
  • Confusion, problems with speech and understanding.
  •  Sudden vision problems, in one or both eyes.
  •  Sudden issues with walking, headache, loss of balance or coordination.
  •  Headache without reason.

Less common symptoms:

Nausea and vomiting.

  •  A brief loss of consciousness, confusion or fainting.
  • Sudden hiccups.
  •  Sudden pain in the face.
  •  Fast breathing and chest pain.

Simple tests to validate these symptoms:

  • Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face remains paralyzed?
  • Ask the person to raise his hands. Does one arm falls?
  • Ask the person to say a simple sentence. Notice the way he tells the sentence, if incomprehensible, then you should visit a doctor.

One Month Before Stroke, Your Body Will Send You These Warning Signs – Don’t Ignore Them!

You can actually protect yourself from stroke, if you pay attention to some signs that your body is trying to send you. There are two types of strokes, the first one and the more common one is ischemic strokes and the second one is hemorrhagic.

The first type is caused by narrowing or blocking of arteries to the brain and that is reducing the blood flow. The second type is less common and it is caused due bleeding in the brain.

You should pay attention to everything unusual that is happening to your body because stroke is the number 5 killer in US.

Where a blood vessel that has a function to carry oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by clot or bursts a stroke will occur. And then part of the brain will not get the blood and with that the oxygen that it needs to keep the brain cells alive which means the brain cells will die.

We all know that brain has many different functions and when stroke occurs and the blood do not reach area that controls particular body function, that part of the body will not work as normal.

You should know the warning signs of stroke because you might help yourself or your friends and family when this happens. It is important to get medical help when you notice some of the signs of stroke.

According to experts the signs and symptoms can be different from person to another because there can be different parts of the brain affected, but what all strokes have in common is that they begin suddenly.

And the most common symptoms of stroke are:

-breathing problems
-pain
-hiccup
-personality changes
-hallucinations
-unconsciousness
-epileptic attacks
-sickness
-lightheadedness or weakness

One Month Before Stroke, Never Ignore These Warning Signs!!!

First of all, it is important to explain that there are two major types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic. Namely, the ischemic strokes occur more common and are caused by a narrowing or blocking of arteries to the brain, and the result is severely reduced blood flow. On the other hand, the hemorrhagic strokes are less common and are caused by bleeding in the brain.

Do you know what is stroke? Stroke is medical issue that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. Statistically, it is no. 5 cause of death in the world and it is leading cause of disability in the United States.

A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts (or ruptures). When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood (and oxygen) it needs, so it and brain cells die. And, now you probably ask yourself – what are the effects of stroke? The brain is an extremely complex organ that controls various body functions. If a stroke occurs and blood flow can’t reach the region that controls a particular body function, that part of the body won’t work as it should.

It’s extremely important to identify the warning signs of a stroke and get medical help as soon as possible to reduce the risk of serious damage to the brain. This can help lower the risk of death or disability and improve your chances of recovery. The medical experts say that the signs and symptoms may vary from one person to another depending on the type of stroke, the part of the brain affected and the extent of damage. But they all tend to begin suddenly.

Stroke – Most Common Symptoms

-Hiccup.
-Unconsciousness
-Lightheadedness or weakness.
-Pain.
-Breathing problems.
-Hallucinations.
-Epileptic attacks.
-Personality changes.
-Sickness.

Warning Signs That Indicate Stroke – Never Ignore Them

Stroke is a life-threatening condition caused by improper blood flow in the brain. It’s also one of the five leading causes of death in the US. Even when a person survives a stroke, permanent brain damage is the most likely outcome.

Aside from a hemorrhagic stroke, one that happens when a weakened blood vessel ruptures, there’s also an ischemic stroke, which occurs as a result of an obstruction within a blood vessel carrying blood to the brain. The hemorrhagic stroke, caused by aneurysms, is rarer.

Luckily, the side effects of a stroke can be significantly lessened if you act promptly. Read on and find out what you should do in case you or someone close to you suffers from a stroke.

Although stroke signs vary from person to person, all strokes have a common denominator – they occur unexpectedly.

STROKE WARNING SIGNS

  • Talking with difficulty or talking vaguely
  • Hard time walking and having no control of movements
  • Numb face and limbs, usually on one side

OTHER SYMPTOMS OF STROKE

  • Sight problems in one or both eyes
  • Complete paralysis
  • Sudden depression

NOW, THE NEXT THING IS THE ACRONYM FAST TO EXPLAIN EACH STEP.

Face: Look at the entire Is your smile crooking? Is it saggy?
Arms: Lift your arms or try. Do they fall down?
Speech: Just say anything a few times. Can you talk properly?
Time: Look for help ASAP!
A stroke strikes quickly and suddenly. That’s why it’s of vital importance to act promptly instead of waiting for things to get better.

Don’t attempt to drive in this condition – it’s very dangerous as you can lose consciousness. Call 911 instead.

Even if the symptoms start to fade away, it doesn’t mean that you no longer need help. These are known as sudden episodes or transient ischemic assaults (TIAs) and they increase the risk of a real stroke.

Strokes sometimes resemble migraines, which can be confusing. But, have in mind that a stroke occurs suddenly, whereas a migraine develops with time spans.

It’s also important to know migraine signs as they increase every stimulus. People describe migraines as patterns, like zigzag or flash colors/lights. On the other hand, TIAs begin with discomfort and blurred vision, impaired hearing and less mobility in limbs.

Even though a stroke can affect anyone, it’s most typical of people suffering from:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Smokers
  • 55 or older
  • Heart issues, atrial fibrillation and blood problems
  • Genetics
  • Aesthetic injuries
  • Migraines

In order to prevent a stroke, it’s important to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet which includes a lot of water, fruits and vegetables. Cutting out cigarettes and taking up regular exercise is also crucial.

Stay healthy and positive! Share and make your loved ones aware!

Doing This Simple Act Will Reduce the Risk of a Stroke or Heart Attack by 88%!

About 2,200 Americans die every day of heart disease, the average being one death in every 40 seconds. It is estimated that 795,000 Americans suffer from a stroke every year. Lifestyle and unhealthy diet are major contributors to a cardiovascular disease.

High cholesterol levels are increasing the risk of a cardiovascular disease. If there is excess cholesterol, it accumulates on the walls of the arteries, thereby causing hardening of the arteries with time. The arteries narrow and the blood flow to the heart becomes compromised. As a consequence, the heart does not get enough oxygen, thus causing a heart attack.

Stroke happens when an artery or a blood vessel is blocked by a blood clot. Additionally, it can happen if a blood vessel breaks, thereby preventing proper blood flow to the brain, which results in lack of oxygen. LDL is responsible for carrying the cholesterol to the tissues and into the blood stream, where it is stored by the body. Extra LDL, or bad cholesterol, can cause accumulation of plaque, thus clogging the arteries. All of this lead to stroke.

Giving Blood Can Reduce the Risk of a Stroke and Heart Attack

Researchers from the University of Kansas conducted a study in 1997, which involved 3,855 candidates. As part of this research, they compared data from non-blood donors and blood donors on vascular events like stroke, heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty and nitroglycerin use. The results showed that 9.77% of blood donors suffered from the above mentioned events, while 17.72% of non-donors. Based on this, the researchers came to the conclusion that non-donors have 81% bigger chances of suffering from a heart disease.

The results from another study from 1998 showed that blood donors had from 75 to 88% reduced risk of a heart attack.

In What Way Does Blood Donation Reduce the Risk of a Cardiovascular Disease?

It has not been proven yet, however researchers believe that donating blood reduces blood’s thickness. Atherosclerosis is characterized by accumulation of fatty materials on the walls. According to medical experts, stored iron can stimulate cholesterol oxidation that is associated with atherosclerosis. In the case of donating blood, some of the stored iron is shed, thus reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.

It is proven that donors have thinner blood, compared to non-donors, and they also have reduced risk of thrombosis, which is clotting of the blood which causes stroke or a heart attack. Being physically active, and consuming a healthy diet are the best ways of reducing cholesterol levels, but donating blood will also play an important role in lowering the blood cholesterol levels.

Reduce Cholesterol Levels in This Way

1. Eat a Healthy Diet
You will reduce the cholesterol levels by reducing the amount of cholesterol and saturated fats in your diet. You will unclog your arteries by eating healthily and incorporating certain foods to your diet.

2. Maintain a Healthy weight
One if the risk factors for a cardiovascular disease is being overweight. Having a healthy weight is crucial for reducing the risk of a cardiovascular disease and also for the health in general.

3. Be Physically Active
Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for a cardiovascular disease. By doing regular exercise, you will lower the bad cholesterol, but increase the good one. This will also help you lose weight faster. Half an hour of physical activity per day is recommended.

4. Do not Smoke
If you are a smoker, stopping can boost the levels of the good cholesterol. In the first year of quitting, a person has already reduced their chances of a cardiovascular disease by 50%.

5. Drink Alcohol in Moderate Amounts
Consuming a lot of alcohol can cause serious health issues, some of them being stroke, heart failure and high blood pressure. What is recommended is that men and women under the age of 65 can have two drinks a day at the maximum and one drink a day at the maximum for people older than 65.

5 Steps To Lower Your Risk Of Heart Attack Or Stroke

An April 2009 study published by Harvard researchers identified the top causes of preventable death in the U.S. While you may expect to see things like automobile crashes and firearms on this list, in fact, the things that cause the most preventable deaths in America are almost exclusively lifestyle factors, including (ranked in order of the most deaths per year):

  1. Smoking
  2. High blood pressure
  3. Overweight/obesity
  4. Inadequate physical activity
  5. High blood sugar

Smoking leads the way with over 460,000 deaths reported in the 2009 study, followed by death related to being overweight or obese (more than 200,000 deaths each year). By comparison, there were about 35,000 automobile-related deaths in 2009, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and even fewer deaths resulting from firearms.

If you’re concerned about your health and want to find ways to avoid these preventable diseases, here are five tips that can lower your risk of developing heart disease or suffering from a stroke.

(1) Exercise

You don’t have to exercise like an Olympic athlete to benefit from daily aerobic activity. Even a little bit of exercise has many benefits for your health, and getting 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week can lower your risk of heart attack or stroke significantly—as much as 30-50%. If you can throw in some strength training along with aerobic exercise, that’s even better. Building stronger muscles boosts your metabolism so your body is more efficient at burning calories throughout the day, even when you’re not exercising.

(2) Eat Healthy and Limit Alcohol Intake

Increase your daily dose of fruits and vegetables, consume lean meats and low-fat dairy, and get fats from heart-healthy sources such as nuts, avocados, and olive oil. At the same time, cut down on salty, sugary foods to limit plaque buildup in arteries, since plaque can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke.

As a side benefit, a healthy diet can even help you lose weight (especially combined with exercise from #1 above), and eating plenty of foods that contain vitamins and minerals can boost your immune system so you don’t get sick as often. Finally, limit your alcohol intake to just 1-2 servings per day, or less. Alcohol can increase blood pressure, which is a leading cause of heart attack and stroke.

(3) Follow Your Doctor’s Orders

If you’re at risk of heart attack or stroke, it’s important that you follow your doctor’s orders on taking medications, exercising, and eating a healthier diet. Studies have shown that many people die each year simply because they were not taking the heart medications prescribed by their physician. Find out what is preventing you from taking medications—forgetfulness, prohibitive costs, or side effects—and talk to the doctor about ways to get around these things.

(4) Avoid Smoking

You have heard millions of times that you need to quit smoking, and every time you hear it, it’s true. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S., and if a disease like lung cancer doesn’t kill you, smoking will also wreak havoc on your heart. It narrows blood vessels in your body, reducing circulation, and weakening the main artery in your body, the aorta, which can lead to aneurysm. Even if you are not a smoker, breathing secondhand smoke can have the same detrimental effects on your body.

(5) Visit Your Dentist

You may have never considered the role your dentist could play in your heart health, but research has shown a significant link between oral health habits and overall health, especially related to chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and other obesity-related conditions. When you have chronic inflammation in your gums, which leads to periodontal disease and gingivitis, it can affect your body’s ability to fight off infection in other areas, and the chronic inflammation in your mouth can also lead to inflammation and damage in other areas of your body.

In addition, your dentist can see some of the early signs of heart disease that your doctor may not notice, such as swollen gums, loose teeth, and other early signs. Scheduling regular check-ups with a dentist every 6 months can help you catch early signs and maintain a healthier mouth.

Following these easy steps can help reduce your risk of developing heart disease, and suffering from heart attack or stroke. Often a few lifestyle changes can have a significant effect on your overall health.

Scientists Confirmed: This Is The World’s #1 Food For Hypertension, Heart Attack, Stroke and Cholesterol!

Dates are ones of the healthiest fruits you can consume, as they are rich in beneficial ingredients that treat various health issues, including hypertension, heart attacks, strokes, and high cholesterol.
They also accelerate the metabolism. Here are 8 of their health benefits:

Dates prevent diarrhea

Dates are high in potassium, which prevents diarrhea by the healthy bacteria and thus relieving the belly flora and the intestines.

Dates regulate cholesterol

Dates cleanse blood vessels and prevent the formation of blood clots, so they effectively regulate the unhealthy cholesterol or LDL.

Dates regulate blood pressure

Dates are high in potassium and contain no sodium, so they are perfect in the case of hypertension. Moreover, 5-6 dates contain 80 mg of magnesium, which boosts the blood flow and is spread through the blood vessels. To reduce blood pressure, you need about 370 mg of magnesium.

Dates for anemia

These fruits are a rich source of iron, so they are extremely useful in the case of anemia, pregnancy, and for children. 100 grams of dates daily will provide 0.9 mg of iron, which is about 11 % of the recommended daily intake of iron.

Iron has a beneficial effect on the red blood cells and hemoglobin and helps the oxygen flow through the blood.

Dates prevent strokes

The high potassium content in these fruits enhances the nervous system and prevents strokes. Hence, the daily intake of 400 mg of potassium successfully prevents strokes.

 Dates for heart health

Soak the dates in water during the night, and in the morning eat them or add them to your smoothie to support heart health.

Dates soothe constipation

Dates are extremely useful in the case of constipation. You should keep them in some water overnight, and then drink the water in the morning to help digestion, and use their mild laxative properties.

Dates help weight loss

The consumption of dates on an empty stomach will help you control your body weight, as they contain no cholesterol.

Avoid This Beverage to Reduce the Risk of Having a Stroke and Heart Attack

Regardless whether you are young or old, if you consume only one can of Red Bull, it may increase the possibility of a heart attack or stroke. As it is rich in caffeine and the blood is becoming sticky after consuming this beverage, it can lead to heart problems and stroke. Your blood changes and becomes abnormal as in person who suffers from a heart disease.

This beverage was forbidden in France from 1996 to 2008 and Uruguay, Denmark and Norway also banned this unhealthy beverage. In Kuwait, the Ministry of Commerce also banned Red Bull for persons under 16 after it caused a heart attack in two young boys, one was 16 and the other was 21.

Summary of Dr. Mercola’s Comments:

Energy drinks can be found in every store and nowadays are extremely popular. People are buying them more than they buy bottled water and they are becoming the most acquired products from the beverage business.

Although people are worried about the safety of these energy drinks, the previous year 3.5 billion cans of Red Bull were sold.

The main ingredients in energy drinks are caffeine and sugar found as sucrose, glucuronolactone and glucose. Energy drinks are responsible for boosting your energy quickly but they don’t have long-term effect. Although commercials are convincing people that drinking several energy drinks in a row will make them feel like a hero- that is not true.

Red Bull provides the following benefits, according to their official website:

-Increased concentration and reaction speed

-Increased endurance

-Improved performance

-Increased metabolism

Energy drinks are similar to soda or coffee. The negative side is that when the effect is gone you start to feel tired and will consume another energy drink to regain energy . And this process starts to resemble to an endless circle.

Although the company that produces Red Bull advises people not to consume more than two cans, but their website doesn’t contain information about such thing.

It is only stated that drinking one can of Red Bull equals with drinking a cup of java coffee.

But there is only one problem, no one can tell you for sure what the side effects are. We know that coffee contains caffeine but it doesn’t have artificial ingredients as two artificial sweeteners and other sugars which Red Bull contains.

Aspartame has metabolic, fetal, carcinogenic, allergenic and neurotoxic effects. In the book Sweet Deceptionyou you can find out more about its negative properties.

Do energy drinks have health benefits?

Compared with soda drinks which don’t contain any nutrients, Red Bull has small amount of vitamin B and taurine (amino acid) but not enough to replace the negative effect of caffeine and sugar.

The caffeine can make you more effective but no one can say with certainty what kind of effects this beverage has on human’s body.

This is quite alarming because this drink is mostly consumed by young people under 30, especially by students who often drink several cans to stay awake during exams.

Who should avoid energy drinks?

As written before they are forbidden for children. If you think better they are not recommendable for adults too:

  • Have prolonged periods of anxiety or stress
  • Pregnant or lactating
  • Have high blood pressure
  • Sensitive to caffeine
  • Have a predisposition to cardiovascular disease
  • Have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  • Have any blood clotting disorder
  • Pregnant or lactating

People that suffer from high blood pressure or are under stress should avoid these drinks as they can be lethal because they have negative effects on their blood vessels and blood clots can appear- claims the researcher Scott Willoughby

Deadly when combined with alcohol

You are combining a depressant and stimulant when you combine alcohol with energy drinks. Though it is very dangerous this is practiced in many bars and night clubs. When consumed together with alcohol they are known as “Yager Bombs” or “Vodka Bulls”.

There are no solid proofs about the effects of this mixture, but entering heavy depressant together with heavy stimulant can cause heart attack and from the previous examples you can see that this is not just a story.

After few deaths as a result of mixing alcohol and Red Bull together, Denmark and France forbidden this energy drink sale. An article published in 2001 in the journal Medicine, Science and Law about the negative effects of Red Bull, alcohol and the stimulant- ephedra.

What is the result? Acute psychosis.

An Italian study was published in a journal Clinical Autonomic Research Society which wrote about a young volleyball player who consumed higher amount of Red Bull and was diagnosed with “postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) associated with a vasovagal reaction,”

They concluded:

“Considering the widespread use of Red Bull among young people who are often unaware of the drink’s drug content, this case report suggests the Red Bull to be considered as a possible cause of orthostatic intolerance.”

Orthostatic intolerance is a medical condition which appears when a person from horizontal position gets up in standing position and his/hers heart rate increases above normal(heart rate that is faster than 120 beats per minute in 10 minutes after sitting or standing or faster than 30 beats per minute).

POTS (Postural Tachycardia Syndrome) is also connected with chronic fatigue syndrome, and that is why if you suffer from chronic fatigue, you should avoid energy drinks.

Avoid alcohol as well. It poisons you brain because it is neurotoxin. Also alcohol, even wine increases insulin levels which can lead to diabetes and other chronic disease.

How to boost your energy without energy drinks?

If you are one of those people who opt for energy drinks when you need to increase energy, you must know that there are other and better options. First it is not naturally to feel tired most of the time and this state is often due to unhealthy habits.

Lack of energy can appear as a result of various factors, including:

  • Insufficient exercise
  • Negative emotions
  • Stressful life
  • Poor dietary habits
  • Insufficient sleep
  • Consumption of low-quality foods

You can easily boost your energy by following these tips:

  • Eat according to your nutritional type
  • Sleep when you are tired
  • Increase the intake of omega-3 fatty acids
  • Exercise regularly
  • Release the emotional stress and negativity with the help of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
  • Eliminate grains and sugar from your diet

Early Signs Of Stroke You Must Know, Even If You Are Young

It is commonly known that the risk of stroke increases with age. However, stroke in young people does happen such as in the case of Katie May who died from stroke in February this year at age of 34. She simply collapsed during a photo shoot and died soon after in hospital. Kate thought she had a pinched nerve, but unfortunately, she died from stroke. Therefore, you should read this article in order to find out the early warning signs of stroke.

1. Impaired, blurred or loss of vision
Impaired or blurred vision in one or both eyes can be a sign of a stroke. According to statistics, 44% of people who suffered from stroke in the UK experienced loss of vision before the stroke occurred.

2. Sudden bouts of dizziness and headache
Dizziness is a strong warning sign of a possible stroke, especially in women younger than 45, according to David Newman, MD and an Associate Professor in the Neurology Department of Hopkins University. So, if you feel sudden dizziness or head swings and blackouts, seek immediate medical help.

3. Incoherent language
Slurred and incoherent speech is the earliest warning sign of a stroke. It is also accompanied by sudden confusion and trouble speaking and understanding.

4. Sudden numbness in limbs
This is also a common sign of stroke. For instance, Katie May felt as if she had pinched her nerve. This can cause paralysis and collapse. The paralysis is linked to the side of the brain which suffers the stroke.

A quick test of stroke: Extend your arms outwards with the palms facing up for 10 seconds. If one arm falls, it indicates a muscle weakness.

5. Pain in one side of the face
A sudden pain in any of your limbs or on one side of your face can be a possible symptom of stroke.

6. Headache and migraines
Sharp and severe headache is a common sign of stroke. A study in which participated 588 volunteers has found that those who had sharp headache before the stroke were mostly young people with a medical history of migraines. Also, it has been found that men were more prone to stroke than man. If you experience this symptom, you should immediately undergo a MRI.

7. Facial weakness or droopy face
Of you feel one side of your face droopy or almost paralyzed, immediately consult your doctor.

8. Fatigue
Studies have found that among patients who experienced ischaemic stroke, women were more prone to exhaustion, disorientation, confusion and fatigue.

9. Hiccups
Sudden bout of constant hiccupping can be a sign of stroke attacking the breathing center of the brain.

10. Shortness of breath and palpitations
Sudden shortness of breath when a stroke occurs is due to difficulty in breathing. This also causes heart palpitations and rapid heart rate as a result of lack of oxygen. This symptom is predominant in women, but still should not be ignored by men as well. If you experience one of these symptoms, you should immediately call 911.

To prevent stroke, you should eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Also, you should rest and maintain a healthy weight. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

8 Signs You Had a Stroke and Might Not Know It. Don’t Ignore These Signs

Our brain needs oxygen and blood so it could maintain its proper function.  If there is a blockage of the blood vessel leading to the brain, it will start to bleed and may result in hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, very dangerous conditions which in many cases are fatal.

Just like in the case of the other health problems, many people ignore the symptoms of stroke.

Stroke is a death-threatening condition which currently takes the 5th place on the list of most common deaths in America. So, in order to protect yourself, it is very important to learn how to recognize the early symptoms of stroke.

Headaches and migraines

If you are having a headache or a bad migraine for a longer period of time, you should consult your doctor immediately!

A sudden onset of fatigue

Even though it is an overlooked symptom, extreme fatigue lasting for a long period can be a symptom of stroke. According to the American Stroke Association, you should follow the FAST acronym in order to recognize the symptoms of stroke.

The acronym stands for:

  • F — face drooping on one side;
  • A —arm weakness or numbness in one side of the body:
  • S —speech difficulty. When a stroke occurs, the lack of blood supply to the brain may lead to slurred or garbled speech.
  • T —time is crucial in cases of stroke. Call an ambulance immediately because in most cases this step is considered as the thin line between life and death!

Other signs of stroke you should pay attention to:

  • Vision problems in one eye
  • One of the most overlooked symptoms of a stroke is definitely a blurred vision or seeing double in one eye
  • Confusion and difficulty thinking

When a stroke occurs, the lack of oxygen and blood supply to the brain leads to an inability to think and speak properly and confusion.

8 Ways You Can Dramatically Reduce Stroke Risk

As we age, stroke risk is increasing and becomes a serious threat. But don’t panic! You can take actions to dramatically reduce the stroke risk.  Controlling what you eat and being physically active are high on the list. They will help you feel healthier, too. In most cases living a healthier lifestyle reduces the need for medical treatment. Try your best to make healthy choices. Do not let stroke to stick you. Here they are the most important things you have to remember to live your life without stroke.

1. Eat healthy foods

Changing your diet results in healthy rewards. In taking of less saturated fat and cholesterol may lower the cholesterol levels in your blood. Make these healthy choices:

  • Eat at least four servings daily of fruits and vegetables;
  • Switch to low- calorie and low- fat snacks;
  • use canola safflower or olive oils instead of oil or fat;
  • try to eat your food without any salt;
  • While choosing a meat make a choice of skinless chicken turkey fish and lean red meats. Do not fry, instead bake boil or broil.

2. Keep a healthy weight

Do you know your BMI? Do you weigh more than you should? If you think you do, your body may be turning excess fat and cholesterol into plaque. Blood flow to your brain can be reduced by the plaques in your blood vessel. Extra weigh can also make working your heart harder, increasing your blood pressure. If you lose weight, you may reduce both risk factors at the same time.

3. Move more

To lose weight your body needs to burn more calories than it takes in. Exercise is good way to burn up calories and help shed extra pounds. It also helps in better working of your heart and blood vessels. Enjoy moderate intensity physical activity for at least 30 minutes most days. Try these easy forms of physical activity:

  • Dance;
  • Walk- it is one of the best forms of exercise. Try joining a mall- walkers club or take a walk during your lunchtime at work.
  • Swim or ride a bicycle.

Check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.

4. Limit alcohol intake

Do not have more than two alcoholic drinks a day if you are a man or have a one in case if you are a woman. Too much alcohol may rise up your blood’s cholesterol level. Drinking too much also increases blood pressure and adds calories to your diet.

5. Blood pressure – High blood pressure is the top risk factor for stroke. If you have high blood pressure, follow your doctor’s recommendation for lifestyle changes and medication. Many people with mildly high readings can lower them by simply altering the way they live, such as improving diet and increasing physical activity. Otherwise, stay on any medication your doctor prescribes.

6. Smoking – If you smoke quit. Smoking is a major preventable risk factor for stroke. The carbon monoxide and nicotine in cigarette smoke hurt the cardiovascular system by damaging and narrowing blood vessels and causing blood to clot. Quitting smoking is tough, but it is worth it.

7. Aspirin – It is proved by various studies that aspirin and other kinds of anti- platelet medications help people at a high risk of stroke to prevent an attack. By interfering with the blood’s ability to clot, aspirin can play an important role in prevention. Doctors recommend aspirin for people who have already suffered stroke. But remember! No one should start taking aspirin without first consulting a doctor.

8. Drink water – Many studies have found out that people who drink more than six glasses of water per day were half as likely to die from a stroke as those who do not. This is probably attributable to the actual fact that maintaining normal hydration keeps blood flowing well; dehydration will cause sluggish flow of blood and increase the danger of forming clots. Water is best when it the body needs to improve blood flow.
