This Turmeric-Carrot-Black Pepper Soup Fights Inflammation, Alzheimer’s Disease and Cancer

The active compound of turmeric, curcumin, possesses more than 150 therapeutic effects, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, all of which have been thoroughly studied.

Why Is Curcumin So Powerful Medicine?

As researchers explain, curcumin has various mechanisms of action, and here are some of the reasons why it is so powerful medicine:

  • It can modulate approximately 700 human genes
  • It can make the membranes of cells more orderly
  • It can positively modulate over 160 separate physiological pathways
  • It can impact signaling molecules, such as: cell survival proteins, DNA and RNA, inflammatory molecules, HIV type 1 integrase and protease, histone, different metal ions and carrier proteins.

Because of these and more other properties, curcumin is extremely beneficial for your health in so many ways, and can prevent various diseases. Health. Natural Product Reports has published a 2011 study according to which curcumin has been proved to be therapeutic for neurological, autoimmune, metabolic, inflammatory, cardiovascular, and liver and lung diseases.

Various studies have proved that curcumin, along with the other turmeric’s active compounds are able to:

  • Obstructs low-density lipoprotein oxidation
  • Support healthy cholesterol levels
  • Causes platelet aggregation
  • Suppress symptoms related to Diabetes type 2
  • Protect against heavy metal toxicity and damages induced from radiation
  • Suppress thrombosis and myocardial infarction
  • Lowers systemic inflammation in obese people
  • Suppress rheumatoid arthritis symptoms
  • Inhibit HIV replication
  • Protect against pulmonary toxicity and fibrosis
  • Suppress multiple sclerosis symptoms
  • Protect against liver damage
  • Enhance bile secretion
  • Improves wound healing
  • Protect against cataracts

Turmeric Might Help Fight Alzheimer’s Disease and More Inflammatory Diseases

Researchers have been led to investigate the potential of curcumin for neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease mostly because of its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Its powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects suggest that it can promote the general health of brain. In terms of Alzheimer’s disease, animal research has found that turmeric possesses another bioactive compound except for curcumin, which further enhances its neuroprotective properties. Health.

The name of this compound is turmerone, and it can help the growth of NSC cells (neutral stem cells), which are important for the repair and regeneration activities of the brain. Adele Rueger is the lead author, who explains that turmerone additionally promotes the stem-cell differentiation into neurons, which is a huge goal of researchers in regenerative medicine.

Past research has proved that curcumin helps restrain the build-up of destructive beta-amyloids in Alzheimer’s patient’s brain, and to break up current plaques related to Alzheimer’s. Health. People with this disease have shown to have brain inflammation in higher levels, and curcumin is widely known for its powerful anti-inflammatory effects. It is able to restrain  the inflammatory metabolic byproducts and the activity of 5-lipooxygenase (5-LOX) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) enzymes, and other hormones and enzymes which modulate inflammation.

Osteoarthritis is another condition that can be improved by the anti-inflammatory effects of curcumin. A 2011 research discovered that osteoarthritis patients who took 200 milligrams of curcumin on a daily basis, along with their treatment plan, have increased their mobility and lowered their pain, as oppose to the control group. A 2006 research have also discovered that turmeric extract can effectively prevent the launch of the protein responsible for the pain and swelling, by blocking the inflammatory pathways.

Curcumin Seems to Be Beneficial for All Types of Cancer
Turmeric’s anti-cancer activity is among its best benefits. Actually, curcumin’s usage against cancer has the largest literature based on evidence that supports this effect of any other nutrient, even of Vitamin D. Health. One of the best physicians in natural medicine cancer , Dr. William LaValley, believes that curcumin is beneficial for every cancer type. Even though this is a bit odd, as cancer consists of various molecular pathologies, curcumin can influence multiple molecular targets through multiple pathways.

It influences over 100 separate molecular pathways upon enetering in a cell. As Dr. LaValley explains, many studies have shown that whether curcumin molecule leads to decrease or increase in activity of a specific molecular target, the end result is a powerful anti-cancer activity. Furthermore, the non-toxic curcumin selectively targets cancer cells, and doesn’t harm the healthy ones, so it brings nothing but benefits in the treatment of cancer. One research has even discovered that curcumin acts synergistically with specific chemo drugs, improving the cancer cells’ elimination.

NEVER Use Turmeric If You Are Taking Any of These Medications!

It’s true that the health benefits turmeric provides are countless. This has even been scientifically proven. This popular spice has long been part of natural medicine and is commonly used for treatment of different health issues. Since it gives fewer side effects, it’s often recommended as a natural alternative to medications and over-the-counter products. However, turmeric can also cause some serious health complications, especially when taken along with certain medications or when consumed excessively.

What is Turmeric?

Turmeric, which originates in South Asia, has been part of Indian cuisine, culture, as well as holistic medicine, for thousands of years.  It’s the root from the turmeric plant. It has been used in India, more than four thousand years ago.

Although turmeric provides numerous health benefits, so far science has only proved some of them. This spice contains a powerful active ingredient, curcumin, which accounts for most of turmeric’s health benefits. Curcumin has anti-thrombotic, anti-carcinogenic, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, because of which turmeric is used as a natural remedy against various health issues. Even though turmeric is often used as the natural and safer alternative to medications, health experts warn that it can still give side effects when taken in combination with other drugs.

Turmeric Side Effects
Interestingly, most of the compounds in turmeric which account for its medicinal properties are also the ones which produce the side effects. For example, if taking blood thinning medications, such as aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix) and warfarin (Coumadin), the anti-thrombotic property of turmeric, which reduces blood clots, can be quite dangerous. If you consume turmeric when on these medications, you put yourself at a serious risk of bleeding.

Turmeric can also interfere with the effect of antacids such as Omeprazole, Ranitidine (Zantac), Famotidine (Pepcid), and Cimetidine (Tagamet). In fact, it produces a number of serious counter effects when taken along with these medications. Some of these include increased stomach acid, damage to the esophagus, stomach pain as well as bloating and nausea.

Diabetics are also advised to avoid this popular spice as it can negatively influence the effect of their medications. What turmeric does is make the effects of these medications stronger thus increasing the risk of hypoglycemia, very low blood sugar levels. This in turn can trigger a series of side effects including reduced cognitive function, delirium, blurred vision, anxiety and unsteadiness.

Last, but not least, turmeric is a possible allergen that can produce allergic reactions like rashes, anaphylaxis and shortness of breath in some people.

In case you are on any of the above-mentioned medications or you are prone to turmeric intolerance, it’s highly recommended to avoid this spice or consume it in very limited amounts.

6 Reasons Turmeric May Be The World`s Most Important Herb

Science greatly supports the use of turmeric, and people have been using this medicinal herb for a very long time to improve their health.

Turmeric is powerful enough to be used in the place of some pharmaceutical drugs. It has less side-effects than synthetic medications, and the number of health benefits from using turmeric is  high, which demonstrates its positive effect on more than 160 different medical conditions.

Turmeric is safe to use, compared to hydrocortisone, chemotherapy drugs and ibuprofen. No medical drug has come close to its 6,000-year record of safety in Ayurvedic medicine — not even some supposedly modern pharmaceutical miracles.

Even though turmeric has great potential to protect human health, it is not a drug, so it can’t be patented.  The FDA wouldn’t be able to receive a profit from it, so therefore, would probably never approve it.

The old aphorism “he who owns the gold makes the rules” goes for the FDA’s ‘gold standard’ for proving the value of a potential agent or substance. The FDA has requested that no clinical trials occur, unless a potential investor agrees to risk losing 800+ million dollars which would need to be spent upfront.

GreenMedInfo.com conducted a study which involved and reviewed more than 5,000 abstracts from the National Library of Medicine’s bibliographic database, known as MEDLINE.

It has been found that turmeric has over 600 potential benefits, and researchers also discovered its primary polyphenol, known as curcumin.

We have listed some of the most potent healing properties of turmeric:
-- Protects against radiation-induced damage
-- Prevents and reverses Alzheimer’s disease associated pathologies
-- Destroys multi-drug resistant cancers
-- Protects against heavy metal toxicity
-- Destroys cancer stem cells (the root of cancer)
-- Reduces unhealthy level of inflammation

Turmeric can improve any health condition that don’t respond to conventional treatments, but that’s not all. There are over 600 other health conditions that could be possibly prevented and treated with turmeric.

Take into consideration the fact that turmeric grows in almost every part of the world, and you can surely understand why it is such a dangerous threat to the pharmaceutical industry.

Learn more about the research in this video (keep in mind that the video is old, so it may need some updates) and share the information to your close family and friends, so they can all learn more about the healing power of turmeric.

Science Confirms Turmeric As Effective As 14 Drugs

Turmeric is one the most completely examined plants today. Its therapeutic properties and segments (principally curcumin) have been the subject of more than 5600 peer-reviewed and published biomedical studies.

Actually, our five-year long research program on this divine plant has uncovered more than 600 potential preventive and remedial applications, and in addition 175 different useful physiological impacts. This whole database of 1,585 ncbi-hyperlinked turmeric abstracts can be downloaded as a PDF file at our page: Downloadable Turmeric Document.

Given the deep examination performed on this astounding spice, it is no big surprise that a developing number of studies have reasoned that it contrasts positively with a mixture of traditional medicines, such as:

LIPITOR/Atorvastatin (cholesterol MEDICATION)

A 2008 research published in the Drugs in R & D journal revealed that an institutionalized planning of curcuminoids from Turmeric contrasted positively with the medication atorvastatin dysfunction, the underlying pathology of the veins that drives atherosclerosis, connecting to decreases in irritation and oxidative stress, in type 2 diabetic patients.

CORTICOSTEROIDS (STEROID MEDICATIONS)

A 1999 research, published in the Phytotherapy Research journal, revealed that the essential polyphenol in turmeric, the saffron colored pigment known as curcumin, contrasted positively with steroids in the administration of chronic anterior uveitis, an incendiary eye sickness.

A 2008 research published in Critical Care Medicine revealed that curcumin contrasted positively with the corticosteroid drug dexamethasone in the animal model as an optional treatment for ensuring lung transplantation-related injury by down-directing incendiary genes.

A preceding 2003 research published in Cancer Letters discovered the same medication contrasted positively with dexamethasone in a lung ischaemia-repurfusion injury model, too.

PROZAC/FLUOXETINE & IMIPRAMINE  (ANTIDEPRESSANTS)

A 2011 research published in the Acta Poloniae Pharmaceutica journal revealed that curcumin contrasted positively with both medications in decreasing depressive conduct in an animal model.

Aspirin (BLOOD THINNER)

A 1986 in vitro and ex vivo research published in the Arzneimittelforschung journal revealed that curcumin has anti-platelet and prostacyclin balancing impacts contrasted with aspirin, showing it may be beneficial to patients inclined to vascular thrombosis, and in need of anti-arthritis therapy.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS

A 2004 research published in the Oncogene journal revealed that curcumin (and resveratrol) were viable options to the medications aspirin, ibuprofen, sulindac, phenylbutazone, naproxen, indomethacin, diclofenac, dexamethasone, celecoxib, and tamoxifen in pushing calming and anti-proliferative actions against tumor cells.

OXALIPLATIN (CHEMOTHERAPY DRUG)

A 2007 research published in the International Journal of Cancer revealed that curcumin contrasts positively and oxaliplatin, as an antiproliferative agenet in colorectal cell lines.

METFORMIN (DIABETES DRUG)

A 2009 research published in the Biochemistry and Biophysical Research Community journal investigated how curcumin may be beneficial in treating diabetes, observing that it initiates AMPK (which expands glucose uptake) and suppresses gluconeogenic gene expression (which suppresses formulation of glucose in the liver) in hepatoma cells.

Fascinatingly, they discovered curcumin to be 500 times to 100,000 times (in the structure known as tetrahydrocurcuminoids(thc)) stronger than metformin in triggering AMPK and its downstream target acetyl-Coa carboxylase (ACC).

An alternative way in which turmeric and its segments uncover their noteworthy curative properties is in exploration of drug resistant- and multi-drug resistant tumors.

We have two categories on our site devoted to exploring natural and integrative treatments on these subjects, keeping in mind there are many substances with evident viability against these chemotherapy- and radiation-safe tumors, curcumin tops both records:

Tumors: Drug Resistant

Tumors: Multi-Drug Resistant

We have discovered more than 54 researches demonstrating that curcumin can incite cell death ensitize drug-resistant tumor cell lines to ordinary treatment.

We have distinguished 27 studies on curcumin’s capability to either cause cell death or sensitize multi-drug resistant tumor cells to ordinary treatment.

Considering the turmeric’s solid track record, used as both food and medicine in different cultures, for a huge number of years, a solid argument can be made for using curcumin as a medication or adjuvant in tumor treatment.

On the other hand, believe it or not, you can use confirmed natural (non-irradiated) turmeric in lower culinary measurements regularly, with the goal that courageous dosages won’t be fundamental later on, after the arrival of a serious illness. Feeding yourself, as opposed to curing yourself with “nutraceuticals,” ought to be the objective of a healthy eating regimen.

Turmeric Is A Potent Inflammation And Cancer Fighter: How Much You Should Take And How Often

Turmeric is a great spice with powerful medicinal properties. It is mostly known as the main ingredient in curry. The root can be grated like ginger and used fresh or dry. Here’s a list of diseases the golden-colored spice can treat:

-Cancer;
-Arthritis;
-Psoriasis;
-Heart attack;
-Gallstones;
-Digestive problems;
-Alzheimer’s disease;
-Diabetes;
-Depression;
-Allergies and colds;
-Skin conditions and wounds;

Turmeric is often a part of natural cosmetic products that can do wonders for your skin.

Curry is a mix of spices that have numerous unique properties. The active ingredient of turmeric is called curcumin and is the most studied of all the compounds in the spice. According to several studies, curcumin can treat over 600 diseases and conditions.

The powers of turmeric

Turmeric contains 20 antibiotic compounds, of which 14 have anti-cancer properties, 12 are anti-inflammatory agents while 10 of them are also antioxidants.

Alzheimer’s disease

Both curcumin and turmerone in turmeric can stimulate new neuron production and make the brain heal itself. This is especially helpful for traumatic brain injuries, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Arthritis

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric can treat arthritis when consumed or applied topically. The suggested dose is a capsule of 400-600 mg. 3 times a day.

Depression

Turmeric has powerful antidepressant properties that work even better than most antidepressants. The spice reduces the levels of the stress hormone cortical, while increasing the production of serotonin in the body. The spice can be consumed in fresh of supplement form, but it can also be mixed with other natural remedies for depression such as St. John’s Wort tea.

Cancer

Turmeric targets cancer cells selectively and leaves the normal cells unharmed, effectively amplifying the effects of chemotherapy or radiation. According to Dr. SaraswatiSukumar, a well-known oncologist, consuming fresh turmeric is more beneficial against cancer than curcumin supplements.

The main problem with curcumin is that the compound isn’t fully bioavailable. In order to benefit from it, you need to increase its absorption by adding some black pepper in the spice and consuming the mixture. This will boost the absorption rate of curcumin by 2000% and will help you get its full health benefits.

Turmeric tea

Boiling turmeric for 10 minutes will increase curcumin’s ability for about 10 times. To prepare the tea, just add half a teaspoon of turmeric in a cup of water and simmer it for 10 minutes, then strain the tea and drink it warm. The taste of turmeric is very bitter, but the boiling process will eliminate the bitterness.

Here’s how to prepare a tasty cup of turmeric tea:

Ingredients:

-Half a teaspoon of turmeric powder
-Half a cup of coconut milk
-Half a cup of water
-1 tablespoon of coconut oil
-Honey (optional)

Preparation:

Bring the water to a boil in a pot, then add the turmeric and simmer the tea for 10 minutes. In the end, add the coconut milk and oil and sweeten the tea with a teaspoon of honey.

Turmeric dosage

Turmeric root is now easily available in almost all health stores and markets. The University of Maryland’s Complementary and Alternative Medicine Guide suggests these daily doses of turmeric for adults:

-Freshly cut turmeric root – 1.5 – 3 gr. daily;
-Tincture (1:2 ratio) – 15-30 drops 4 times a day;
-Fluid extract (1:1 ratio) – 30-90 drops daily;
-Dried powdered turmeric root – 1 – 3 gr. a day.

For turmeric supplements, the recommended dose is 400-600 mg. a day. Find a product that has 95% curcuminoids and contains black pepper or piperinefor better absorption. Follow the instructions on the label if you’re unsure of the dosage.

Side-effects of turmeric consumption

There are no known side-effects of turmeric consumption, but turmeric supplements have some adverse side-effects. Avoid taking them if you’re pregnant, trying to conceive, if you’re suffering from gallbladder disease or a hormone-sensitive condition.

You should also avoid taking turmeric supplements if you’re scheduled for surgery, on blood-clotting or iron deficiency meds, or if you’re suffering from stomach problems. Turmeric supplements can also interfere with diabetes and stomach acid-reducing drugs.

Homemade Sauerkraut Boosted with Turmeric – Fermented Elixir of Health

Turmeric – This much talked about spice has been popping up left, right and center with all of its benefits, but really – is there anything that turmeric can’t do? Because turmeric is a superfood, deserves being highlighted and put in the spotlight! Curcumin and turmeric are in the center of attention in more than 2,000 studies conducted on PubMed!

Turmeric can be used for inflammation, pain, cancer, depression, diabetes, IBS and it also can be used for whitening the teeth naturally!

There is many information on the internet that include turmeric so it can be difficult to make a decision in which way to use this spice. Which way is the right?

Using the whole food is always the best option. That means to utilize turmeric the form that is natural (organic turmeric powder or whole root) – before it has been processed into extracts and isolates. Turmeric as a whole has numerous natural components that are promoting the health including ‘curcuminoid’.

As far as supplementation goes; this tool is to ‘supplement’ an already healthy diet, not to replace the need for clean eating. We just begin to understand the compounds in whole foods that are wonderful, how they are related and work in the body to give support to the health.

We all think that it is better to consume something when it is in its organic and whole natural form than to use some extract, that is questionable, inside a capsule together with other ingredients and a huge list of processes of manufacturing – we can’t improve the health by the added compounds that are processed into capsules. It can’t be expected they to work as natural ingredients!

When using turmeric, there are two really important things you must know – and then there is a third secret, which we will talk about today!

First, fats that are saturated and healthy are necessary for the absorbtion of curcumine that is active in turmeric. That is why an organic combination of turmeric powder or fresh whole root with coconut oil, grass-fed butter, ghee or sustainable palm oil should be used.

Also, always use a combination of turmeric and black pepper. Because the piperine (which gives the pungency of the black pepper) is responsible for enhancing the absorption and increasing the bioavailability. [2]

If you have ever learned about turmeric, you are already familiar with the benefits of consuming black pepper and healthy fats for increasing the absorption. Finally, the most important thing is to consume fermented turmeric if you want to get the great benefit from it.

Yep, this takes things to a whole new level… and doesn’t have to be tricky. Fermenting can actually be quite simple. One research which can be found in the International Journal of Food Science and Technology revealed that curcumin’s bioavailability is increased even more if it is used as fermented. During the process of digestion, various metabolites are being transformed by curcumin. The body can absorb those metabolites more easily than the whole molecule of curcumin.

Not to mention, fermented foods also support and ease digestion. So, in case the GI is not functioning properly (have food intolerance’s, you get bloated, alternating constipation/diarrhea, gas and acid reflux) using fermented turmeric can take the tax off of the process of digestion. Therefore, the turmeric’s beneficial compounds could be absorbed easily in the bloodstream and the body can use the benefit. Remember if digestion is not at its pride, and if you have feeling of bloating after a meal – you are NOT effectively absorbing your nutrition from your meal. You can be malnourished even though you are on an organic and healthy diet if the digestion is not effective.

What are the benefits of fermentation?

The preservation of food has been used from ancient times. The process lactofermentation is natural and simple and is encouraging bacteria feed. They feed on the starch and sugar found in the food. The result is lactic acid. The process preserves the food to make the shelf life longer (due to that the process is popular since long time ago) and beneficial minerals, enzymes, b-vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, various strains of probiotics and antioxidants are created in the process.

The process of fermentation has many benefits. Lactic acid has a role in promoting the growth of the intestinal flora that is healthy. This flora is helpful for building a powerful immune system and healthy gut.

By the consumption of foods that are fermented such as homemade sauerkraut you can easily get the most nutritional property from the whole superfoods and foods by enhancing all of their beneficial properties and also increasing the nutrient value! With a powerful herb like turmeric, getting the most from the whole root is ideal. Consuming homemade sauerkraut with turmeric, a couple of tablespoons daily is a wonderful way to increase the intake of nutrient and feel the root’s benefits.

Homemade Sauerkraut With Turmeric

Makes 1-2 large jars

Ingredients:

-1 medium cabbage, shredded
-2-4 tbsp. fresh turmeric root, grated or shredded
-1 tbsp. fine Himalayan salt
-1/8/1-4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Tools you will need:

-Gloves
-Large bowl
-Chef knife
-Cutting board
-Fermenting Crock, Mason Jars with an airlock lid

Instructions:

1.Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and slice into quarters. The thick core should be cut out and the cabbage should be shred into very long and thin slices, either in a food processor or by hand.
2.Use a bowl for mixing from stainless steel or a large glass to toss the Then sprinkle on the salt. Using gloves, squeeze, massage and knead the cabbage. It should become juicy and limp. This process breaks up the cabbages cellular structure! Getting the liquid out of the cabbage can take about 5 minutes of intense massaging.
3.When bubbles could be seen and a pool is made from the juice, put the pepper and turmeric and mix them well. (The cabbage juice bubbling at some point could be heard).
4.Now pack the cabbage that is now juice into a crock for fermentation or glass mason jar that is large. The cabbage should be packed down tightly in order to eliminate air bubbles. Use a pounder for sauerkraut. You can also make an improvisation with a spoon or spatula to pack the cabbage tight so that the juice covers the cabbage completely. You must submerge the cabbage completely in the juice. This step is crucial for the fermentation to be done successfully.
5.If you use a mason jar and put on it a kraut kap screw it. The kap is intended and designed for creating an environment that is anaerobic and ensures the absence of bacteria that are bad
6.Store at room temperature in a dark place. Put a fermenting rock or a small mason jar that is filled with liquid such as water) for keeping the kraut weighed down, this prevents having to disturb the fermentation process by opening the lid and pushing the homemade sauerkraut down below the brine.
7.Let the homemade sauerkraut ferment for a period from 4 weeks till 6 months. If the period of fermentation is longer it will be stronger.
8.You can then keep the homemade sauerkraut at room temperature and enjoy for up to 8-weeks, or you can transfer to the refrigerator which can increase the shelf life (from 6- 12 months). Some master fermenter’s think that if you use a refrigerator for storing you will influence the probiotics in it and it is completely unnecessary. However, you can do whatever you are comfortable with.

NOTES:

-Don’t forget to drink the juice! This is a shot for the gut! Put it into your salad dressings or take it in a shot glass.
-If some scum floats in the brine of the homemade sauerkraut, use a spoon to take it out. The formation of bacteria that are bad can be present in case the materials that are solid are above the liquid and make an optimal environment for bad bacteria. The materials that are covered with the liquid will not be contaminated with bacteria which may be multiplying above the liquid. If you use a mason jar or crock for fermentation that have kraut lids that fit properly the risk of microbial contamination is eliminated.
-Fermentation is an art: if it smells off, and tastes off, it’s probably off… Then throw that sauerkraut, out!

Turmeric As A Cure For Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a long life skin condition with no medical cure. Patients usually rely on steroidal medications to suppress the body’s immune system. However, this has been a concern over the years because steroids are known to cause serious side effects when used over a long period. This is why nowadays many people have turned to turmeric for managing psoriasis symptoms rather than using medication.

Turmeric has been used for centuries in treatment of various skin conditions. The curative property of turmeric gained more attention when scientists isolated its therapeutic component curcumin. Curcumin is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant healing agent that can be taken orally or applied to the affected skin. You can add one teaspoon to your juice. An avocado smoothie is good choice since the fat in avocado increases its absorption. To rub it on the skin, you need to mix the powder with some water or oil. However, note that it might stain your clothes and it takes effort to wash off. But it’s a risk worth taking considering the health benefits you will reap from it. For those looking for a convenient solution, you can buy turmeric pills from the store and take as recommended.

Suppressing psoriasis activity

Curcumin suppresses the activity of enzyme PhK which is responsible for the psoriasis activity.

Curcumin and inflammation

Most Psoriasis patients suffer from inflammation. Curcumin takes care of this by reducing the level of histamine. Histamine is responsible for inflammation. It also blocks the molecule that activates the cellular inflammation response.

Skin infections

Psoriasis patients are prone and at a high risk of skin infections. The skin is already compromised and as such can be infected even with exposure to minute pathogens. Turmeric prevents skin infections due to its antibacterial properties.

Several studies have proven that psoriasis patients can reap huge benefits from this product. The product is FDA approved. However, the main challenge is bioavailability. It is poorly absorbed and that is why many people do not see the effect even with continued use. Those who process turmeric have gone ahead to make capsules that boost absorption. When using it at home, consider pairing it with fatty foods. This is one of the best ways to boost absorption.

Another point to note is that curcumin is available in small amounts in turmeric. So if you are considering turmeric powder from the store, ensure that you take a few grams each day to get adequate curcumin. Adding a little black pepper will increase its absorption.
